Post Your 2405FPW RGB, Brightness, & Contrast Settings Here

Did anyone go into the service menu? There's a whole load of options, one of them being able to change the normal preset (individual r/g/b numbers). Mine's r89, g89, b68. I tried changing them all to 89, but now the blue looks kind of washed out. I defaulted them just to be safe.

Does anyone know of a reliable online tool that can be used to properly calibrate these parameters?

Edit: this site claims to calibrate your monitor, but it looks like it doesn't change anything...

After getting my new GPU, I tried messing with the values again and this is the best setting for my particular panel. Try them out, I think you might like it: ;)

Red: 44
Green: 44
Blue: 44
Brightness: 0

I'm using a spyder2pro calibrator. I have my brightness down to 0.

Red 40
Green 40
Blue 40

This gives me a gamma of 2.2 and a color temp of 6500k as well as a birghtness of 190 cd/m2. I work in a dim enviorment so if I have the brightness too high it hurts my eyes.

Question.

When I set my monitor resolution to 1280x720, it fills up the whole screen, making it stretched. Will it do the same thing while running the Xbox360 on the 2405 at said resolution or will it provide a letterboxed widescreen picture. Or is that not possible?

I much prefer the letterbox.

Connected through DVI...

I have the colors set to:
red: 36
green: 33
blue: 32

brightness: 0

contrast (using ATi control panel): 0 or 25

Having brightness set to 0 and contrast to 0 seems pretty odd, but it's perfect through using DiplayMate.

I should've looked into this thread here yesterday. I got this monitor yesterday and quite pleased with what I see but a problem is, in my case, some headache. I don't feel any strain with my eyes but I get quite bothersome headache. I haven't changed any setting yet although I found the factory setting too bright and turned it down to 27 this morning. It doesn really make my headache go away so far yet.
Could my problem be some kind of variants of your eye strains you guys are talking about?

These settings work well for me! Better than factory-default, that's for sure.

So people that uses the Adobe Gamma file..I'm a little confused, are you actually installing a file that automatically adjust your settings or you're using the file to adjust the settings from? If so, what are your settings?

Can someone answer my questions above?

ah i'm using msny's settings. they're pretty good... though i may need to turn down my brightness cuz the room i'm in is darker.

There's been a fairly long discussion about that...basically the people that know about these things say that because it's digital, there's no signal degradation. You either get a signal or you don't. So it's not like analog cables where quality can vary a great deal. At least that's how I understand it. :)

Good man !

I have since turned my brighness down also. What I find with these settings is a nice balance of gaming and TV watching....

Actually I kind of like the settings of 50 50 50 for surfing and playing games with a brightness of 50. Now for picture editing that is a different story. What is the easiest way to switch back and forth between a custom setting and the default setting? What is the default setting by the way? I have configured it so much I forgot. Is it 50 50 50 on the color and 50 brightness?

A brightness level of over zero on this thing would give you awful black levels. Maybe it looses brightness over time.

ok

how exactly are you guys calibrating the color and brightness?

What program you are using?

Yeah, I'd like to know, too. Still trying to suss out this 2405. 7800GT driving it thru DVI. I want proper settings for WinDVD, Photoshop and gaming. Thanks!

I couldn't agree more, those settings have been working perfectly for me, except I have made one slight adjustment to them...

Under the NVidia display properties applet I have found that by enabling the Digital Vibrance Control (INSERT YOUR RELIGOUS OPIONS ON DVC HERE) and adjusting it up by 2 notches** you get a color palette that makes gaming just wonderful.

YMMY of course.

- Stan

** By 2 notches I mean that with the default setting of OFF for DVC, you CLICK on the control and then hit the right-arrow key twice. You can tell if you have this right by looking just below the control and you will see two small tick marks.

Dude...sorry for the stupid question...but where is this Digital Vibrance Control ?

edit : Just to add on the list

Red : 33
Green : 36
Blue : 32
Brightness : 65

Red: 7

Green: 14

Blue: 31

Brightness 61

I used the X-rite Eye One 2 Display calibrator using the Eye Match 3.6.2 software.

I am using Vista 64 bit and i didn't get any error message like some people reported :X

The monitor isn't killing bright as it was earlier. I hope i caliberated this thing properly. The only thing i couldn't adjust was the contrast :[

How weird! I just calibrated my panel with the exact same hardware/software! Has it been 2-1/2 years since this thread was bumped? My settings for an 8800GT 512MB on 177.83 drivers over DVI:

Red: 35

Green: 41

Blue: 41

Brightness: 5

nVidia control panel Brightness: 40% (down from default of 50%)

nVidia control panel Contrast: 50% (default)

I didn't realize I'd bumped the panel brightness up from the 0 I had once set it at, so perhaps the nVidia driver Brightness setting could be higher.

Moogle: What video card and connection method are you using to get such crazy different settings from my setup?

I've changed my setting already.

Someone told me to leave blue at 50, and just adjust green and red to reach the target.

I am using Vista ultimate 64bit, Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS.

I was mostly trying to get help from this other thread

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1334177&page=4

1. I reseted factory settings for monitor through OSD

2. I adjusted the brightness in monitor OSD to 7 because it looked ok at that brightness.

3. I ran calibration which started with setting RGB

4. next is setting brightness.

Before any further adjustment was made, the colormeter read the following

I managed to get the target i wanted.

The final results and profile was saved to pc settings :]

This are my new settings now.

Red: 20

Green: 25

Blue: 50

Brightness: 29

DirkBelig - So what do you think ? Did i manage to caliberate correctly ?

I forgot to mention that I'm running WinXP SP3 (32-bit). I can't say if you did it right or not compared to my numbers because there may have been running changes on the panels that went into our respective units, etc. I know it's important to make sure that you have any other color correctors like Adobe Gamma shut off.

I got my Eye One 2 because my Huey Pro wand failed on the HW side. (I did a calibration and it destroyed my settings on my laptop - a Dell XPS 1530 which desperately needs correction to tame a serious blue bias.) Pantone has a item in the KB about this issue and when I sent in my complaint, they didn't even try to make me jump thru hoops before offering a replacement, so that tells me they knew darn well I had a bad stick. The Eye One is a far, far more substantial unit with a far better calibration routine in the software.

Photo agency Retna recommends this line, so as long as you followed the instructions and the numbers are in line with the targets, you should be good to go.

thx belig.

By the way are u using the eye match software like me ? Eye Match 3.6.2 software.

What about the driver which are you using

Is there any better software to use for the calibrator ?

As I noted in post #66: I just calibrated my panel with the exact same hardware/software! Has it been 2-1/2 years since this thread was bumped? My settings for an 8800GT 512MB on 177.83 drivers

I don't know of what other software would work with the hardware. You may want to check your results with something like DisplayMate, but that just shows you how the display is doing in rendering the image.

All color calibrators can do is modify the output to compensate for the shortcomings of the hardware. (Thus the curves in the profile.) If the display isn't showing the proper shade of red or whatever, the profile inserts a tweak to fake it into behaving. As the software says in the last screen, just because it may be close to spec, it doesn't guarantee that if can be used for "soft proofing" (where you can judge how printed output will look by viewing the screen.) High-end displays for critical publishing and color-grading purposes cost several multiples what consumer displays retail for.

Dirk need your help.

I got this as well.

I just ignored the message and just did the review.

Anybody know why it gets stuck on calculating profile for ages ? I mean after doing the rgb and brightness, the next step is for the monitor to create a profile after running the test, but instead it just says calculating profile .....

Anyway i went to review to check the results and save the icc profile. I then checked my vista color management to confirm it was using the icc profile.

I am using a Dell 2405FPW lcd monitor, Vista ultimate 64 bit, Nvidia Geforce 8800 gts and a X-rite Eye One Display 2 calibrator.

I just bought the basICColor software.

Well it shows more information. It's more complex to use too

Hopefully that just means it will offer better results.

I will post some screenshots shortly.

The results

I reset to factory settings which were all 50 before i ran the calibration process. I followed the software instructions and set the following below to meet the target.

red 18

green 23

blue 50

brightness 22

Did i do this correctly  I was using an Eye one display 2 calibrator on a Dell 2405 FPW lcd monitor.

I am also curious what this means for the eye match features

New gamut mapping included.
The new Colorful Gamut mapping from Profile Maker 5.05 is now used in Eye-One Match.

Does it mean it can do standard and wide gamut calibrations or something ? Can the colorbasic do that too

I don't know why contrast says around 400 when it should by right be 1000 !!! Any ideas ? Did i do the calibration wrongly or something :d

I don't know if you're doing it right; I can only relate my experiences. If you have questions/concerns about your software, you should contact the support people at X-Rite or whoever.

TOOLS: spyder2pro, vista, nvidia 7300gt, dell 2405 dvi connection

GOAL: to get the maximum dynamic range at zero brightness (because this monitor is hella bright) with a target white point of 0.314 0.324 xy (~6500K equiv. i believe)

maximum dynamic range such that i am doing my best not to limit the luminance with RGB sliders

the following RGB values gave me the exact white point:
blue 49
red 42
green 37.5

blue is the limiting factor. i found that blue no longer contributes to the white point at around ~49 while red and green can still shift the results. with those values set, the luminance is ~136.3cd/m² and the colour temperature is ~6460K.

if i wanted to target the 80cd/m² sRGB standard, i would have to limit the RGB values even lower, further artificially reducing the gamut available to me.

if you're wondering what the green value of 37.5 means, perhaps this picture would help:

a sidenote:
with the RGB settings all at 100, the luminance is ~170cd/m² @ 0 brightness and ~5917K

perhaps i should try calibrating the monitor somewhere closer to 5917K because that seems to be the backlight's native white point

I'm still rocking 36, 33, 32 with 27 brightness. Been happy with this for the last 3 years or so.
