Ok, so the voodoo is a waste of money. So what should I get a 9300 or a XPS. I am going to get a new harddrive, adn 2 gigs of ram off of newegg.

I was just reading the review of the 9300 over at notebookreview.com, they said the underside of the dell allows for upgrading of the HD, CPU, Optical, Modem, and RAM. They also say MINI PCI is that like the graphics card. Cause if so couldn't you put a athlon x2 in there, and a 7800 GTX go when they become available. Now the 9300 seem's like a better value over the xps gen2.

It would be a pretty good trick to get an Athlon of any flavor to run on a mobo that takes an Intel P-M. ;) But yeah, you oughta be able to upgrade most stuff in there. I did the RAM to 2 GB which took all of 5 minutes - it would have been 2 minutes but I decided to put in one stick, reboot and verify, then added the other.

AFAIK, the major differences are that the XPS looks prettier (matter of taste) and comes with the 6800 Ultra, as opposed to the 6800 Go in the 9300. Oh, and the pricetag is significantly higher.

I actually prefer the look of the 9300 over the XPS. The XPS looks too ricerish for my taste's. If you know what I mean. :p

The XPS2 comes standard with over $1100 worth of upgrades you can get on the 9300 and one you can't: the Go 6800 Ultra. It's actually a better value to get the XPS 2 if you're going to get all those upgrades.

If I wanted RAID, a Camera, 2 CD drives, and a desktop processor I would build a desktop.

wrong thread buddy XPS 2 doesn't have any of those desktop frills

a small amount of research on your part would do wonders.

Actually, check out the Inspiron 9300 here. It comes with a GeForce Go 6800, and it's only $1,899 CDN (which is roughly $1,555 USD). Not a bad deal! Personally, I'd go for this over an XPS Gen2 (I don't particularly like the looks of the XPS Gen2).
