I was just using my dads dremel to make some cuts in my metal case and while i was cutting it just stopped. So i turned it off and back on and nothing happened. So i tryed it in a few different outlets and it still didnt work. Its been 20 minutes and it still isnt working. Has anyone ever experienced this? What can it be?

Do Dremel's have internal fuses? If so I would guess it blew out because of overload / a power surge.

If thats the case, ban news. Most of the time when a fuse blows, its something internal to the device that caused it. If you replace the fuse, 99.9% of teh time it will jsut blow out again. :(

Probably the Motor Brushes, see your manual, but there are 2 of them, bye the sides there are 2 plastic screws, take them out and you can see the brushes, if they aret to wear out, just clean them or use sand paper a bit and try again.

Seconding the brushes.

Also, have you checked the electrical box in your house? Might be the offchance that you flipped a breaker.

I was using my Dremel not too long ago, and it caught something and jumped. It stopped and when I turned it off and back on again, the motor barely spun. Checked the brushes and the spring holding one of the brushes down had also jumped off and that's what was preventing the motor from spinning. A 2 second realignment of the spring and it was back to normal. XPR400 series as well.

So long story short, check the brushes and make sure they're seated properly..

ok that just happened to me as well.. i thought i was gonna go buy a new dremel . . mine seemed to overheat.. Ive seen dremels break down.. so i automatically assumed the worst..
is there a tutorial for something like this.. .dont really wanna do more harm than good. .
thanks guys.

i will post pics later of what i did..

Under heavy usage, they don't last very long. I use them a lot for detail work when porting cylinder heads and intakes. So far I've killed 1 Black & Decker RTX and 2 Dremels. I'm currently on the 3rd dremel and it now has only 2 speeds.

All of these rotary tools died (or are dying) from the power regulating assembly/switch going bad.

What do the brushes do? Can they have such an effect that it doesnt show any sign that its on when i turn it on?

I use Snap-on air grinders.......been using the same 4 die grinders for 3 years.......

Does anyone have pics on what exactly i am to do with any internal parts.. or a guide out there that may explain what exactly to do. I plan on buying another dremel.. the xpr series.. this time but wanted to salvage the old one. thanks
