Well, went out and bought a Cannon A85 today so I thought I'd take some pics of my dual vapochill setup :p

awesome!
benchies! Hows it run? how much did all that cost ya?
hows game performance with dual opties?

Performance on it is amazing, at the moment its running 24x7 at 220 * 12 = 2640mhz.
The motherboard has no PCI/AGP lock so I can't get any higher right now, I'm thinking of getting one of those Iwill dual opteron, dual pci-e boards for SLI power, allthough I heard they aren't goot for overclocking either
For a comparison of performance, I currently hold the fifth (not sixth like my sig says) pcmark04 record in the world :p

Gaming-wise its amazing too, im CS Source I get 140 fps in the video stresstest when at 1280*1024 16AA 6AF.3dmark05 I get 5585 3dmarks.

I might be getting another Vapochill LS soon, but I'll be giving it away rather than sticking it on my 6800U, with all the condensation issues it'll be a big problem imo

not for 24/7. Only for benchmarks.
Edit: How those vapos performs? Load/idle evap. temp and the heaters?

If you know me irl you'd know im too lazy to keep switching HS and vapochill =D

Go for Tyan and add another phase for your 6800U :D

6800's tend to throttle when the temps get too low. So you don't see too many phase-changed 6800's. Impressive machine, ZXcs, must be great for the LAN parties.

Yea, I dont think theres a bios workaround for throttling yet, but the asus 6800U (PCI-E ones anyway) dont throttle

I know how much of a bitch not having a PCI/AGP lock is--my current system doesn't.

Anyway, don't Opterons have unlocked multis?? Can't you raise clocks that way? 12x220 doesn't seem that great (no offense) considering the cooling ;) . 14x215 would give you dual 3GHz Optys! :D

multipliers are unlocked downwards only, so u can go from 4-12, not 12+

Wow, I'm definitely going to be watching this thread to see how you put everything together and get the mounting done.
What case will you be using?

I'm gunna try and get it all in a case today, but last night I got huge condensation and freezing on CPU-2, I had ice blocks the size of my fingers around the socket when I took the evapourator head off. I let everything thaw overnight and I'm going to start putting it in a case today.
Be warned, if you are gunna get a vapochill/prommy, make sure you have good insulation, condensation can be a real pain in the ass.

I just hope I didn't fry the motherboard...

oh, and the case will be Antec SOHO Fileserver

Ouch. I wish you the best. I lost a very nice video card that way. I have the same case for my test rigs, one of my favorites by far.

Matt.

There's a way to turn off thermal throttling for 6800U cards. You have to mod the vga bios :)

So, next step is quad vapochilled opterons?

For insulation, you could just cover everything with regular epoxy. It's cheap, durable and and extremely poor conductor, worse than most plastics.

The only Opterons with unlocked multipliers were called FX-51 and FX-53. Though, they were based on the 1xx series, so they can't be used in SMP... they have the extra HT links disabled. There should be some way to unlock those HT links, but nobody knows how to do it.

Ok heres the deal: I thawed my motherboard out overnight and today I spent 3 hours cutting the case and fitting everything in, then the big moment; pressing the power switch. I pressed it and power was given to the motherboard for approx 1 sec ( I could tell as the fans were moving and the CCFLs lit up) then it died. I guess I fried the motherboard, I'm so pissed off at the moment, gunna have to fork some more cash out to get this thing running :(

Impossible. But it will prevent this kind of damage for sure. And it's dirt cheap.

I'd rather have condensation on a $700 mobo (getting Iwill DK8N) and be able to RMA it (if you know what I mean ;) ) than have no condensation with epoxy all over the place that will basically mould everything to it and make sure theres no way in hell I'm gunna get everything off short of a chainsaw :D

No, seriously, what are my options other than epoxy? I don't really care if it costs quite a bit if it will stop condensation and is removeable

Oh. Epoxy doesn't exactly stop condensation, it just makes the things on the mobo invulnerable to it. There are some dielectric greases you might wanna try, but they aren't supposed to prevent this kind of damage, only insulate components and prevent short circuits.

I don't know why you would want to remove it, since there's no way in hell it would get damaged after you apply a 1/2" thick layer of epoxy ;)

combination of dielectric grease and epoxy should help prevent condensation.
I thought i read somewhere that acetone can remove certain types of epoxy, but i'm probably way off on that.

I`ve been running this same MB with a pair of 244s under Vapo PE`s for a couple of months now. I have it all in a Vapo Titanium case.

Matt.
Always set the heaters at 50% and up, exept when you bench.

On the LS run the heaters 100% as it wil not effect the OC little if at all.
Filling the sockets completely full of dielectric grease and putting the system under 100% load will also do ton`s to stop condensation.

with the mobo and everything else sitting on that rug, wont it get a ton of static electricity build up? i would think so, and the lifespan of that thing will get severely shortened.

Well, since I got huge condensation and fried the motherboard, aswell as bending 20 pins on one of my Opterons, I ordered a new motherboard (DK8N). I didn't really like the master-2 far as it didnt have an agp/pci lock. I'll rebuild the whole system this weekend when I go home (hopefully the CPU's pins didnt affect anything inside and it still works), and no on the floor on that rug, but in a real case :D

Be sure to run it out fully on air before you mount up the Vapos, but I`m sure you knew that already.

actually, better than epoxy, (believe it's the same material?) rtv sealant, there's an article on the web...
googling now:
http://www.octools.com/index.cgi?caller=articles/socket_condensation/intro.html
there are several articles there.
Danger Den and cooltechnica sell the clear rtv sealant.
I'm sure there are other vendors if you search enough.
The stuff is fantastic.

watch the RTV sealants, they give off nasty chemicals when they cure and can damage sensitive components

...and they`re nearly impossable to clean off if you need to RMA the board.

Damn - nice clocks...

I'm considering getting an FX-55 to go with my XEII. It only idles at just under -35C though - -55 is crazy!

Dumb question - but how do you adjust the settings (heater level, fan speeds etc). I adjust the sliders, click 'accept changes' and nothing happens. Saving the config and opening it doesn't do anything either

I'm having a blonde moment here...

Finally installed my iwilll dk8n and I hit the 2.7 ghz mark on the opterons! woot! Haven't dared to try any higher yet, maybe when I get some 3500 ram. Pics coming soon.

Froze up 20 sec after I took this, resulted in data corruption on drive and I had to boot into recovery console and CHDSK. I keep getting corruption errors when I go above 225 HT, I think its due to SATA not locking with PCI lock. Will get actual pics of the setup when I find camera drivers and bench pics when I can get SATA locked, would be nice to bench pcmark04 and S-PI.

you could probably get away with using one compressor in both loops. Just buy one that's twice as powerful.
