Hey im new in this forum so yea. To start off i have a HP Desktop 3.0GHz w/HT 512mb 160gb. I recently bought a ATI 9600 xt 256mb for my compuer and it worked great. Only problem is that my sound would cut in and out. It worked well with Cs Source(beta version that is) But still my sound was cutting out for long periods of times. I contacted a technition and they dont know wtf is wrong. I took out the card and continued using my Integrated Graphics and everything is good again. So the problem was the card. I would like to get a new video card that will work will the new Cs Source. I just want to know what a good card is for that. Im not looking for the #1 card but something that will work with Cs Source. I dont wanna be laggy and shit. Thanks. :p

For the same price, or similar price (here at least) you can get a 9800 pro. It works great.

I'm guessing Intel drivers were conflicting. Read the FAQ sticky and see how to properly remove your drivers.

Try to get at least a 9700 Pro.

consult here before buying.

I can spend $200..Mabye a bit more
You can go for the 128mb 6800 that will be on sale black friday. $230 + tax - $30 rebate. Otherwise you can wait for 6600GT AGP to be more available (those will be right around ~$200 it seems based on PCI-E prices). If you don't want to wait then just go for a used 9800 Pro. I'm on one and HL2/CS:S runs great (max AA/AF will be less playable though).

The game runs silky smooth on my 9800 XT. Also maybe you should upgrade to 1GB of RAM. RAM does help alot in the long run. Battlefield Vietnam is a new game with +1GB of RAM :)

aight..ummm hows the best way to go about getting ram? should i just get 512 more? to add up to a gig?? lol sorry i know how the operating system ways but i dont know the about the shit that RUNS the operating system ahha

When I purchased my second stick of 512 ram, I just bought the exact same stuff I had bought before.. Im not sure if theres a certain way to go about things like that, but just stick with the same speed ram and you should be fine.. Im not sure if 2 sticks of ram with 2 different timings work.. Maybe someone can clarify that...

Buy the exact same memory that is in your current computer. It says that on my asus board that it is best to buy ths same type/brand of memory for optimal performance.

 i say go get the 6600GT.. it owns the 9800 pro along with the 9800XT it gets me pissed when people say the 9800 pro is the same speed as the 6600GT.. look in reviews.. the 9800 pro cant keep up with the 6600GT neither can the 9800XT lol. :p
