Finally in-stock at Amazon for 807.69 - $100 rebate....ARGGGGH SHOULD I BUY?!?!?!

AMAZON finally in stock link

If you don't care about the reflection then go ahead. it's the best 19 inch out there so far.. I love it...

Is the SDMHS94P the only LCD mon so far with no (or little) anti-glare coating from Sony? What about the other 19" and 17" mons?

the monitor in question is an exception because of the X-bright feature.

Most of the Sony LCD monitors do NOT have the plastic cover, but rather just the LCD screen itself.

If you don't mind 25ms, sony has a non x-bright 19" that looks very nice.

~Hope this helps

I disagree 100% steal. I have a 4 year old Sony trinitron 19". With an anti static, anti glare coating. It worked VERY GOOD. Basically no glare unless the sun was reflected off a car windshield.... which sometimes happened.

~Hope this helps

I just purchased a SDM-HS94P/S from Amazon for $809.99 and the $100 off rebate. It's being shipped up to my dorm room, and I should be able to hook it up and give you guys some of my impressions as soon as wed. Hopefully no dead pixels or anything like that :)

hi all.. i just got this lcd but im not too sure on how to set it
what settings do you have for the following ?

User?
Phase?
Pitch?
Color?
Brightness?
Contrast?
Gamma?

Im seeing these horizontal lines going across the screen. Im guessing this is phasing but no matter what setting i set i still get it. It doesnt totally go away. Im not using a DVI cable right now cuz my vid card doesnt support it. If any of you can give a noob a hand it'd be much appreciated. thanks.

Wushubby... check back in this thread... there are suggested settings from several people...

Looks nice monitor. I like that case.. what kind is it? I like the big window, and lighting. I'm assuming the lighting didn't come w/ it

I just got the monitor. How do I get these stupid stickers on the sides of the screen off?

Circuit City Salespeople in general aren't very knowledgeable, they just wander the aisles and look to give their sales pitches! ( I shouldn't generalize like that, maybe its just my Circuit City)

I asked here because I saw a guy in this thread with a Black Bezel one? (now I can't find it or the pics are down  )

Also, HardForum guys seem to know more and might have an inside scoop than most of the store employees.

AMEN to that comment!! I went to Circuit City and purchased this monitor after flagging down the only available sales rep I could find in the building who wasn't "Busy". He told me they had 1 left so I paid for it and went up front to pick it up. After 15 minutes of bumbling through computer screens and walking up and down the floor at least 20 times he says they don't have it. His manager yells at him for selling the item when the computer says they have only 1 and he promptly refunded my money. All in all I have NEVER had a GOOD experience at Circuit City. They are a bunch of bumbling fools that do not know their products.

Back on topic.. I really wish I could have tried out the Sony. Im glad they did not have it though since Amazon has it for 50 dollars less than I would have paid.

Does the 12ms really make that much of a diff? I mean I hear people with 25ms lcds saying they experience no ghosting. Is the response really the issue here?

I've never seen 16 ms but there is a world of difference between every 25ms screen I have seen and this 12ms.

Is that mean, We are gonna see reflection on this new viewsonic monitor also... Damnnnn :( :(  When will they make a perfect monitor

I saw the new sony monitor in person.... gotta tell you... its like a mirror. even if you turn on the monitor

If you're coming from another LCD that had no glare, I can understand the big deal about the reflection on the Sony. If you're coming from a CRT however, I don't see what the fuss is about. It isn't any worse than staring @ a CRT. I have a window opposite to my LCD, and the reflection isn't that bad. Mind you, I am used to using LCDs that have no glare, so it is kind of a letdown. Oh well, compromises I suppose.

Have had this monitor for 2 wks. and it gets better every day. For me, glare is not a problem, the picture is great and better after tweaking the settings a little more. there are drivers on the sony site(an inf file really). Also, I normally stay away from blanket statements(good/bad), but-It took me ONE HOUR FORTY MIN. to buy this monitor at CC. Unless they are paying people to buy something, that is my last trip to our local CC.
All in all this is a really fine monitor cheers

stop spreading around this kind of info, it is NOT like a mirror, it is less reflective than a CRT, so if you never had problems with the reflectiveness of a CRT, you've got nothing to worry about with this LCD

just been rereading this thread-It is NOT like a mirror . back up a few replies and look at the flashlight test. this thing is no worse under any condition than a crt and under 90+% of cases much better..Just wish It had not cost so blame much.

Best buy has a great deal right now on this monitor. After my CC debacle a few days ago I swore I would not buy this monitor as it just wasn't meant to be but I was walking through BB today and saw it for 699 after rebate. Its still 915 out the door after tax but it has a 150 dollar rebate. SWEET! Needless to say I bought and I love it!

I was coming from a cheapo 19" fishbowl crt that I got for 100 bucks years ago so this is a MAJOR upgrade. It occured to me after an hour that one of the things that i was concerned about was the glare..well I had to FIND the glare just to reasure myself that it did in fact exist. If you have ever used a crt you will NOT be bothered by this monitor. Sony did not invent some kind of shinny coating that is somehow more reflective than glass. A crt is going to be worse any day of the week.

The color on this thing is just amazing as well. I connected it via DVI and haven't looked back. If you have an old crt and are thinking of going LCD then this monitor should definitely be atop your list.

You assume too much. ^_^

I have a 4 year old Sony Trinitron 19". It has a anti-static, anti-glare coating to it.

The only glare i notice, is if i point a spot light at it from 4 inches away, and even then its a blue tint.

I went to bestbuy and checked this LCD out, and trust me Gshady, it has more glare then my CRT.

~Hope this "shines some light" on his post, hehe

do you have numerous extremely high wattage flourescent lights in your room like they do in best buy?

Ok I conceed that one. I guess that comment was a little broad.

All in all though this is one of the best looking lcd monitors available IMHO. I like the lcds with the clear coating, for some reason it just makes the color more vibrant and the images more clear. Regular lcds look dull to me.

yup saw it in person next to the vx910 and they both reflect like crazy even with the monitor on. I would take the screen door effect any day over that.

I just picked one up the other day.

I have my lights in the room setting behind where the LCD (and the old CRT used to) sits. So I really dont notice the refelection. So far its a very nice monitor. It looks great at its default res (1280x1024) and even 1024x768 does good in games. So far so good and no ghosting :)

Hi there people, I took the time to register this forum because it sort of helped me in the decision of getting an HS94PS. If anyone is concerned about my objectivity, I didn't pay for this monitor (I'll spare you the details), I could have chosen *any* 19 inch LCD instead of this one. I won't redo a complete test (unless you guys really want that), I saw some other posts that covered it quite well.
I simply want to cover the "reflection" issue. Let's be precise the room organisation first : I have a window located about 7 inches behind my screen, that window is oriented to the south. Then, I have a 500W hallogen situated on the far rear left of the room (about 14 inches away), and also another 500W hallogen lamp situated right next to me on my right (about 2 inches away).
When both are lit up to the max, and there is also daylight, the screen will effectively reflect your face, this being the worst possible configuration. Even with this, after a few minutes, when you just concentrat on what you are doing (typing like now, playing, browsing etc...) you honestly notice it less and less.
BUT, and pay attention to this big BUT, even under those horrid conditions, IF you set the backlight at "HIGH", you won't see ANY reflection anymore. The only drawback of this setting being (as stated before) that it somewhat softens the blacks. But with a little of fine tuning you will find a good compromise between the blacks deepness & erasing the reflection effect.

So I will conclude by saying that this screen is simply great, with the right setting it will not produce any reflection even when a great amount of light comes in the angle of vision. Furthermore it renders colours and still images better than any of the new 19" (12 or 16ms) that I have seen (Philips/LG/Viewsonic). Texts are also very precise, there is no blurr effect at all in any of the games I play (Doom3, UT2004 etc...). For instance when I played the first time the Doom3 intro vid, I had the impression to completely rediscover it, it simply "jumps" right at your eye. They've done quite a good job here, and I think those qualities deserve the difference of price !
Bye peeps :)

ok ,guys you persuaded me :D
i will get one of those next week ,reading all threads regarding FAST 19" LCD displays
i easily figured out that this one is the BEST choise . The monitor is GREAT and
the reflecting thing in not an issue at all.

also in europe the monitor has 170/170 view (not 160/160 as in US model)
and it's called x-black instead of x-brite ,practicaly it's the same monitor ,
maybe a little "fixed" . Also sony says the european model is 16,77 million
not 16,2 .... don't know if this is an error in ALL sony european sites or
they added something in the european x-black version (that also costs about +150$).

the model numbers however are IDENTICAL

SMD-HS94PB (black bezel /metalic silver base)
&
SMD-HS94PS (silver bezel /metalic silver base)

http://media.sonystyle-europe.com/en/display/index.html

the only question remaining is which color is better ? :D
i personaly prefer the black bezel but some people say, black bezel = more eyestrain
is this true ?

which color would you choose if both were available ?
please the guys who already got your monitor post more photos !!!

thanks.

I beleive Sony's rebate expires in a few days - so if you want this monitor - run...

I will be waiting for a decent price on vp912b.

Kind of got spoiled by this new (xbrite-like) screens - other lcds look very plain next to them.

In sweden it does exit. But the problem is that they are sold out on every place at the moment.

Kontrast 700:1
Ljusstyrka 250 nit (cd/m2)
Horisontell betraktningsvinkel 170 grader

could you send me a link where you got those specs from ? thanks .
i also live in europe (italy),so i might be able to get those instead.

i searched a little bit and SDM-HS94L exist also in italy ,
specs are correct, but are you sure it has TCO'03 certification ?
i can't find this anywhere in the official specs .

SMD-HS94PB & SMD-HS94PS are not certified even for TCO'99 !!!

could someone who already has any of those monitors tell us if can
find anywhere anykind of TCO certification ?

mentorxxx

This info is all from Pricerunner

Sony SDM-HS94B Black
TCO 95/99/03 "Yes"

Sony SDM-HS94L Blue
TCO 95/99/03 "Yes"

Sony SDM-HS94PB Black
TCO 95/99/03 "Yes"

Sony SDM-HS94PS Silver
TCO 95/99/03 "Yes"

Sony SDM-HS94P
TCO 95/99/03 "Dont know" It doesnt say att the website.

http://se.pricerunner.com/computing/peripherals/monitors/223361/details
And scroll down, then you will se the TCO 95/99/03 But Ja in swedish instead of Yes

Or this, in English there you can search for all screens.

http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/computing/peripherals/monitors/223361/details

just one "yes" means they are just TCO'95 ?
if they were TCO 95/99/03 shouldn't they write yes/yes/yes ?

if you check the official sony website they say the certificates but there is no
TCO certification ....

there is one very simple way that we can check this 100% ,could one
of the guys who got one of those monitors check the back of the monitor
(or the manual) and tells us if they are TCO certified ? and if yes if they are also
TCO'03 ?

thanks

mentorxxx

I`am calling Sony tomorrow..

And the Yes is for it cert for TCO 95/99/03.

It is like that on the CRT Displays to. And all tft i can find...

Some screens it is only TCO 95 and others it is TCO 95/99.

Yes means it is certi for 95/99/03

--------
The TCO 99 Standard demends a min hz off 85hz. On crt monitors anyway.

Look at this monitor

TCO 95/99/03 Nej "no"
