id Software's Official DOOM3 Benchmarks

Uh-oh....seems even the 6800GT beats the X800XT PE in those benches..

Woohoo!!!! Doom 3 benches finally!!!

I tried to tell you guys the 6800GT would beat the X800XT PE in Doom 3. But NOOOOO, nobody wanted to listen to me :p.

Am I the only one who is concerned that the only RAM configurations tested were 4GB and 2GB?

I mean, how common is 2GB nowadays? I've got 1GB and up until now, that's been much, much more than enough.

Is the performance difference between 2GB RAM and 1GB RAM expected to be appreciable?

Thanks,

H

I was just about to mention this. Looks like DOOM3 will be a monster. 800x600 anyone? :p

Wow, I was a little leary about going BACK to nVidia (after that whole FX fiasco), I'm glad I did though, my GT was shipped via 2-day UPS....today.

Where is everyone getting the BFG cards? I really don't care about HL2 at all but I've wanted D3 for 4 years.

Compuplus is where I ordered my card from.

To bad Doom3 will suck cause it has No Multi. Well it does but what fun is 4 player dm? Like WTF? I think we should wait and have another company bring out a GOOD game with doom3 engine.

I'm most suprised about the ATi defecit in the lower end segment (x800 Pro vs. 6800GT).

The x800 gets trumped!

I think this is appropriate.

"We don't deny that ATI has a wonderful product and it took the performance lead from us. But if they think they're going to hold onto it, they're smoking something hallucinogenic.''

Wow I'm really glad I got my GT now. Out performing hte XT in almost everything! Definatly justifies the money for teh GT!

have both camps been able to optimize their drivers by now? JC is probably still ticked with ATi, maybe id isn't playing fair?.

Nevermind x800pro vs 6800GT, the 6800GT *stock* beats the x800xtpe by 20%+.

Apparently quoted for truth ;)

Can you say, "Sour Grapes?"

I've been saying this forever, in every discussion I've been in...and it's nice to see my hunch was right on in the midst of all the ATIdiots ranting and disparaging the Nvidia name.

haha, "Told you so".

Holy cow, I thought the ATI top-end cards were going to do alot better, but geez, a $299 card beating a $500 card? That's out of this world.

Oh well, looks like I'll be investing on a 6800GT next paycheck, so much for buying this 9800 Pro. Pfft.

GG

Now I just have to find a good GF3 or 4 card :) .... :( (too poor right now for a $300 card).

That is ridiculous.

I'm interested in seeing the results when testers have more time to play around with things, inspect code, etc.

No accusations, mind you.

Just...interested.

Don't you mean IF HL2 EVER comes out? ;)

I doubt the X800's lead in HL2 will be ANYTHING near what were seeing now in Doom 3 lmao.

Especially since HL2 is using SM 3.0.

Honestly guys it sounds like Doom3 has and is a game that hardware developers did not get their hands on. If this truly is he case then it just goes to show who really does have the better hardware out on the market right now. Granted Doom3 could have been developed with a certain hardware specification in mind; but it really didn't sound like that really was the case here.

It sounds like a lot went into this game to make it run on all computers.

Yup, looks like Nvidia is better if you want to play Doom3.

ATi couldn't pull a good OpenGL driver out of their hat in time, too bad for ATi. Its obviously not a hardware issue, because it does so well in D3D (and theres really no reason for a performance disparage other than really good D3D or really bad OpenGL)

I too am a little disappointed with the (lack of) multiplayer aspect. I do not enjoy deathmatch type games half as much as team based shooters, deathmatch tends to get old fast. I greatly prefer co-op games like WolfET and UT2004.

But, what will probably happen is ATi will get the final Doom3 code, disect it, and work around it to increase performance by backward engineering it. Its an easier way to do it, but not good for gamers as we usually want to play it at full speed the day its released.

I cant load the page up! Is the 9800pro benched? How does it fare?

I take it you haven't played Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow? Only 4 players in MP and it is one of the best MP experiences I could have imagined. I think DOOM 3 is really trying to play up the horror aspect of the game, and that is much easier to do with 4 people sneaking around as opposed to 16 people blowing each other up.

$300 beating a $500 card?
Link me a site that has a GT for 300 bucks, they are all being sold for 400-450 now

Got a link showing official notice of this or just rumor? I seem to have read that it "will happen sometime", but will not be on the shipping version.

R.I.P. ATI X800 line.......................
