A win98 machine has been shutting down at approx. 4 PM each day for the past week. I have performed the following and it still has not remedied the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. Checked to make sure in task scheduling that it was not set for the computer to shut down at 4 PM each day.

2. Checked to make sure that suspend mode was not set.

3. Checked for spyware. Deleted spyware.

4. There was originally a UPS backup system connected to it. When I ran my antivirus program, it detected a virus in the shutdown.exe file of the UPS software, so I deleted the file and then uninstalled the problem. I originally thought this was the whole problem, but since it is still shutting down at 4 PM each day I have no idea what is going on.

The machine is not connected to the internet in any way.

Thanks :)

Whats msconfig look like? Nothing suspicous there?

IMO you touched all the bases....maybe there is a "creep" temp problem?

Is the box on 24/7 or you hit it on in the morning and by afternoon the sun is on it, kids are using it, and its just dirty inside?

I didn't think to check msconfig. :( I thought I had touched all the bases also in what work I've performed so far. It's a work computer, so not kids are using it and I cleaned out the inside also. It's shut down each evening when the office closes.

I'm wondering what else I can do to try and fix it, but I have pretty much ran through all the options I know of.
