:( im sux ok?

wut type of video card is that. ill take it off your hands before you break it :D

also y would u do that to ur case?

I've mostly have a few "posessed" Dremel incidents other then that it's nothing that I can't figure out a work around for. Although I haven't really done any mods that I hadn't spend a lot of time planning out, although now I'm pretty much rebuilding my case from sratch and I have a few things that I need to refix.

holy mama!!...what did you do to that?

I am gonna guess he got really angry and likes to hit things.

*Porcha got owned by a Barb and proceeds to beat the hell outta his comp*

Heh, playing FPS's since 95 has cost me a few mice, keyboards and almost once a monitor, but never the computer itself. No offense man, but you either need anger management classes or seriously need to grow up.

Lost a 9500np to a water leak--and a Soltek FRN2 Nforce board to another leak.

Soldering iron also got me a couple of times.

Love it, tho. (though I wonder if it's in a healthy way...)

lol i used to throw my old microsoft intelimouse (corded) but now with my new logitech mx900, i almost launched it acouple of times now

Heh, one of the reasons I wont get wireless, too tempting to put a target up and use it when I get ticked that some german gunner got a head shot from the hip while playing some CoD :)

I screwed up a case side once. I started cutting without masking tape (well it was only beige) and didnt cut perfectly straigh and dont have anything electric to file it down...i'm probably going to strip that case down to the frame one day and put plexi around it or something.

My first Yeong Yang cube, which costs 200 dollars for the base case...

I slipped with the dremel and x'd out a side panel. I was able to find another for cheap...

So I get the windows all installed and then I manage to be close to done when I go to chrome the internal parts.

The HDD cage came back slightly bent so I bent it back but it still was screwed

Ended up going 200 over budget ordering replacement parts to fix the ones I focked up

Hince the reason I will not pay more than 60 bucks for a case :D

Someday, when I have money burning a hole in my pocket I might be able to, but at this time I cant afford to pay attention, much less fubar an expensive case

Hehe, I have pics of a similar cube of mine:

This one is getting the stickers taken off, primered and painted blue next week

:)

My worst hit came with modding my old lady's Motorola T721 cell phone without her knowledge. The 'hit' wasn't that I had to pay out $250 to buy a new one when I broke it, the 'hit' was her hand upside my head when I told her!

lol haha now thats a hit :D

I just love the sheer functionality a Yeong Yang cube provides. It allows you to do some very clean wiring.

Example:

Heh I've done a few stupid things.

First was more to me than the case I was working on... In the span of about 2 hours I
1. Burnt myself on hot metal I had just cut. The kicker: I was showing a friend how to dremel, and my burn was preceded by a "Now don't touch the metal after you've cut it because its very ho-OOAHHAHA OUCH OUCH OUCH" and hten me flailing around the yard... lol
2. Then, I had my PSU open to wire in a different button and such, got it all hooked up, plugged it in, but my thumb stuck out and managed to get wrapped around the back of the plug socket (trying to get leverage on an open PSU = teh stupid idea). Got a nice shock out of that...
3. After all that I was hauling some complete pieces downstairs, trip on the stairs, stuff goes flying, I fall face first down the stairs in front of friends.

Yeah, I was having a bright day..

Other stupid thing was with a mod of a VCR into a computer. I had orignally built it around a mATX mobo that eventually got upgraded. I went and bought the first suitable one I saw, thinking "Hey, all mATX boards oughta be the same dimensions..." Well, the new one was about an inch longer in one dimension, and didn't fit. Spent a good 3 hours dremeling out tiny little bits of plastic and squeezing until it finally fit in (just barely though...)

THATS EXACTLY THE PROJECT I M WORKING ON RIGHT NOW...vcr mod, yea!!!!

Oooh, I like OCTech. Shiny :D

Well, in my limited modding experience, having ideas which are completely unfeasable due to hardware limitations is a hit to the ego ;)

But right now I've been modding my first HP printer (circa 1995) into a comp, and on the flip-up part (opens to install ink cartridges) I screwed up teh paint by touching it before it was done, and then tried sanding it with one of those handheld sanders (Mouse or somethin) and it goo'd up the paint and sander, so now its fubar. But to fix it I'm planning on using it as a mold for some plexiglass to take its place :)

There's also the time I sanded, primed, and painted a mouse prob well over 10 times before i realized that I wasn't the problem. The paint would bubble and get screwy, and i thought i did it wrong, or bad conditions, etc. Turns out one was laquer and one was enamel or soemthing like that. doh!

And once I got really po'd at a game and hurled a floppy disc at the wall. It stuck in >.<

how did you mod ur hp printer into a comp?

my friend is trying to do that right now, hes a newbie so any tips?

Well everything was going well. I finished my case in time for ECL (East Coast Lan a 500 person lan party in VA beach) Anways Took it apart for shipping and sat it in my car. I come back out to my car and my front bezel melted. More of mis-shapped it's self.

So the moral of this story is don't leave cases in cars they melt!

Not actually a mod, but I was using my Dell PocketPC on my kitchen table, spilled milk all over the damn thing, I was so pissed I almost smashed the table. I took it to the sink, washed it out with water, removed the batteries, and took it apart. I took a blowdryer and used it on the PPC, left it to dry some more overnight, put it back together, and it worked fine. I'm still using it to this day. Just goes to show how desperate a guy can get when he's short on cash.

Hey wayne, I'll try to give some help, but not sure how useful it'll be since this is/was my first modding project.

Got the thing working in time to be a few hours late for a LAN party hosted by HardDrive.com (Thanks guys! :) ) and our LAN Club at our school (Clear Lake High). It was on Friday. I got everything ready and took it there, afraid it wouldnt work cause it was the trial run since modding. It wouldn't start >.< After goofing around with it for a bit, I got it working, and then it wouldnt boot! For some reason, it would start up, find the HD in BIOS then ask me to reboot, and then it couldnt find the HD anymore. Still don't know whats wrong... But I'll be making a post detailing its building and how it looks soon once I have a digi-cam from a friend of mine, and I've got it working :)

But to start some actually useful info...
First thing, find all the parts that are gonna go into it and try and visualize where they'll go, then measure all the parts and transfer measurements to case to make sure it'll fit, taking into consideration cables, mounting parts, etc. For me, I had to do a last minute scramble to figure out how to mount the hard drives casue I forgot about them when planning. Also, if you can, actualy put the parts in where you want them to help with all the final planning and figure out what you're gonna have to cut. IMHO after working on one, less is more, because it'll come out more cleaner/cooler looking if you can keep most of the original printer intact and natural looking.
One thing to consider also is PCI/AGP card height. I ended up having to seperate the top and bottom parts and set them on each other at the LAN because part of the front of the printer was pushing my vid card down so hard it had made the back of it pull out of the slot >.<
I think it looks cooler if you replace the little flip-up door that you use to get Ink cartidges out with Lexan or plexi, but that's just me. Lexan = the bomb because you don't have to be gentle. After bending it most of the way with a heat gun, my knee and body weight were sufficient to do any minor adjustments necessary ;)
For painting, use this guide: http://www.pc-workshop.net/articles/paint101/paint101-1.shtml
It is awesome, and mine would be even better if I didnt start painting 2 days before it had to be done ;) And for mounting, Epoxy and/or carefully used silicon are fine, but where possible I'd suggest screwing it in. But generally speaking, Epoxy can hold up a braket keeping, say, a CDROM from succuming to gravity and smashing things in the case :)
Man, I said alot :D . One last thing, If you're going to use Cold Cathodes mounted on the side of the case, MEASURE FIRST! I got a pair of dual cathode kits (Blue and UV) from PCToyland, rushed over, to realize that 12" ones were WAY too big. They always look so small in the pictures.... >.<
But as amazing as it seems, thats about as condensed as I can make this info session :) Hopefully I'll go more in-depth when I get that cam ^.^ But till then, I wish your friend the best of luck in his endevor. May the mod be with you!

good old table saw. i was in wood shop making a computer table and went on the table saw and nearly cut off my hand. just a couple of scars. also was on the bansaw and i got a manicur :D

HOLY SHIT! OWWW! :(

Dude ... routers are are high-RPM devices, not to be fucked with!

:p

Gen.Viper- yea, thats exactly what i have done when i made my computer inside a vcr.... but i saved a lot of space by getting a motherboard that has everything onboard that is necessary, sound, video, lan, etc..... although onboard may not be the best quality, i was aiming for less space consumption and i wouldnt have minded if this computer lagged a lil or so as long as it fits inside a vcr casing.... the most important thing to always do is to put the parts in, but dont secure it, and see if it fits EVERYTIME YOU MAKE A DECISION.... when i decided to mount a caseless powersupply upside down instead of rightside up as i originally decided, i put it together several times to make sure it fits.... after everything is in the right place with the proper secure methods, such is drilled holes, etc, THEN secure it.... because i couldnt really secure a lot of parts to the bottom of the vcr since its plastic and things were over other components in the way AND also the top cover was not the most secure part, i used a lot of wire and zip ties to secure the motherboard to the bottom, cd drive to the sides with extensions so the cd drive is actually floating above the motherboard but my harddrive is screwed down to the bottom and the powersupply is taped to the top of the hdd by its heatsink with the help of double sided foamy tape..... i covered the bottom part of the pcb of the psu with several layers of clingwrap to prevent short circuiting.... heat is DEFINITELY a problem because of the lack of space but i put two fans in between the mobo/cd drive and the psu/hdd with one fan blowing and the other fan sucking.... i m still gonna get a 60mm fan for exhaust though

also, a lot of features on the vcr such as led indicators, power button, channel button, etc... i took advantage of.... power button on the vcr IS the power button on the computer, channel button on the vcr is the button for the cd drive, the indicator leds on the vcr of red and green leds were replaced with strong red and blue led with red for power and blue for hdd activity, the vhs tape is the cd drive....play button was the restart button but it doesnt work anymore after i put the cover on...o well, no big deal

but my main problem is that it runs super hot so i MUST get an exhaust fan if i want to leave it on for long periods of time

one more tip is to do something about ide cables... either make them lie flat on flat surfaces or make/buy rounded cables so they dont restrict airflow as airflow is critical to your computers life unless you like expensive fireworks ;)

also, your advice of measuring... i must get that into my friends brain because he doesnt believe in measuring... he always believes everything will go as according to whats in his mind and planning on paper is not necessary... i ll show him..lol ...... yea, hes kinda dumb:rolleyes:

Qtip42- MAMA MIA....DUDE, ARE YOU OK????
ouch, thats really gotta hurt

I tried to drill holes in those cheap psu covers, the plastic ones. I was off by like 1 mm. I took the hammer and went to hell on my psu.

thats nothing... i saw my shop teacher take off his thumb with a radial arm saw.

i also took off a 1/16 chunk off my index with a joiner

my worst mod was a air plane that i made out of pepsi cans...looked like ass hole.

im working on my first computer mod and all is well
