My local EB is currently selling used Dreamcasts w/ 1 controller for $15. This is in Glen Ellyn IL, and they had a few on hand. Picked one up as a spare :)

Gonna pick up two if they have 'em here.

mod one for HTPC, to match my 3DO dvd server. Use the other to play Virtua Tennis.

Damn. I went and bought one new for $100 back when they stopped making them because I didn't think I would be able to find one for very long after that. Then they dropped to $50. Now $15 used. Hell, I would probably buy another one if there was an EB within an hour of here.

the local GameStops also have 30% off all their dreamcast stuff

I picked up a used console and quake3 for 20$..

Hmmm... Maybe I'll buy a used $15 Dreamcast to play the new $60 import releases coming out next month... The one I have is fine, but at that price, I might grab a spare to look at getting chipmodded.

Actually According to here all dreamcasts will.

I always had to use the utopia boot disk, i guess i have one of the rare ones, i was just given a black one that i have not tried yet.

I must run down to EB tomorrow. I've had the biggest craving to play PSO v2!!!
I've never owned the game or a DC because I'm just too damned cheap. Maybe now....! :D

I missed this one because my local one got rid of all their DC stuff, but the one that did have the stuff had a coupon in one of their magazines for a DC for 9.99 if you buy two pre-owned DC games. The assistant-manager also threw in two memory cards for free. They mischarged me on one of the games, so they just refunded it and let me keep that game free.

i have one that works, another one that crashes when it tries to load games (yes very weird). it + bittorrent = hours of fun :D

the emulators are the best.

Any DC made before October 2000 (the manufacture date will be on the serial number sticker on the bottom) will be able to read CD-Rs. Mine (July 2000) still needs a bootdisk (I use DC-X, because it allows VGA support in some games that don't natively support it) to play imports though. I've played homebrews without problem, but have never tried a copied game.

Unless you want to ruin the disk-drive in your Dreamcast by using boot disks, you'll need a modchip.

I've had mine in since the month after Shenmue (Japanese) came out.

How do boot disks ruin the drive?

i have a black one but have yet to test out any burned discs, let me know if it works or not, i may end up having to go buy a $15 system.

I purchased two units off eBay about a month ago. I downloaded over 50 games using BitTorrent and all the games were self-bootable. No mod-chip or boot disc needed.

I put the disc(s) in and the games fire up!
