So let me get it right... it works something like this? 1. For example buy a EVGA GTX 580 2. Within 90 days setup-up to a newer model like the GTX 590 for example 3. After that the GTX 590 holds and cannot be traded/step-upped again?

The Maximus IV Extreme has a little bit weird PCIe wiring. The first 8 lanes from the CPU go right to the first x16 PCIe slot. The second 8 lanes go also to the first slot if no other slot is populated. However, if there is a card in the third x16 slot, these 8 lanes go not to the first but...
