Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Yes, I'm probably going to swap the 3 low flow fans I have for 3 high static pressure from Noctua. (made for CPU radiators, but since the disks are so close from one another, you need to put some pressure to have the air flowing).
Aiming for the Noctua NF-F12 PWM, I believe it's a good fan...
Thanks for the suggestion about R Studio.
Unfortunately when creating the array I went for ReFS file system which almost no software can recover since it's a bit young technology.
What was backed up is on it's way back, and for what wasn't saved, well let's just say that now, the cleanup...
I'll think about testing them next time :)
I believe the temperature might not help as well, the disks are running at 56°C continuously, which I believe is a lot.
The logs show a full load of lost drives recently cause I believe my chassis (areca 4220) to cause some issues with connection...
Hello,

For those of you who'd like a silent Areca system (I have a 1882IX24 and the fan is way too noisy for me, since the Norco 4220 Chassis is in my office).
I use this : Link
It's basically a 2 slot PCI bracket held device with 2x120mm Fan, it's very silent, but is quite close to the MB...
I'll go for an dual core ROC for the parity calculation performance. (so either Areca 1882 or LSI 9265)
The SAS expander does seem nice, not sure about its compatibility with those boards.
I'm a lot more interested in the Areca IX version because it can be upgraded easily in terms of cache...
I can't find any decent review for this controller, the 2 I found were made with SSDs (I need mass storage, not "undecent" speeds, anywhere near 500M/s sequential read/write will fill up the quad nic link ...)
Concerning the drive, there's been a lot of builds made with the HD204UI (found posts...
A couple of years back, I swapped my 7 external USB hard drives to a Qnap T410 with 5.5 TB available in RAID 5.
I now have outgrown that capacity (and am bored with the very very slow writing speeds of this device) so I'm moving to something a bit bigger, here's what I chose :
Case : Norco...
