Question for the veterans of PC gaming: why was the Radeon 9700 Pro such a big deal?

I kept up with the nVidia 6800 series when it came out and I never heard of the 6800 NU. I knew about the vanilla, GS, GT, and Ultra, but never heard of that.

Question for the veterans of PC gaming: why was the Radeon 9700 Pro such a big deal?

In my case it was the Radeon 9800 Pro, I got it on Christmas of 2003 so I could play Counter Strike. It was mindblowing to see CS 1.6 with the same quality as my local internet cafe. But sadly my 9800 Pro never got to flex its muscles because I had a Pentium 4 1.7 GHz Willamette, it totally held...

Question for the veterans of PC gaming: why was the Radeon 9700 Pro such a big deal?

I've been in PC gaming/hardware for around 15 years but the 9700 Pro was just before my time (plus I was 10 years old so I wasn't mature enough). All of the comments I've read about it are along the lines of "Best GPU of all time!" and other similar remarks. Can you guys tell me why it was such...

How does overclocking work on non-K processors?

So I'm talking about 6h, 7th, and 8th gen processors, for example the i5-8400 or something like that. Can it OC anywhere past 4.0 GHz? (the Turbo speed is exactly 4.0 GHz) The reason I'm asking is because I remember back in the Sandy Bridge days, if a CPU had a Turbo speed of 3.6 GHz, it could...

Some Carriers May Start Hiding Signal Strength from Users in Android P

Megalith, you wrote the signal strength wrong. High dBm values mean poor signal strength, and low dBm values mean high signal strength. The image you posted in the article shows the same thing.

Do new Intel motherboards (Z170/Z270) still support SSD caching?

I have looked at Intel's product support pages and most of them say that Z97 or Z87 were the last motherboards that support SRT for caching. If anyone could please check their BIOS and let me know I would really appreciate it. :-)

Pentium g4560 selling too well for Intel's liking?

I don't remember how much the G4560 cost, but with the current pricing the best mainstream CPU is the G4600. I think the IGP in it is fast enough to accelerate 4k video, and with the right motherboard HDMI and DP can both output 4k. Perfect processor for non-gamers.

    Monoprice Mech Keyboards: Backlit - $23.99/Non-backlit - $19.99 FS

I picked up the non-backlit one with Gateron switches. Types very nicely, although I can't say if it's as good as Cherry MX or other popular switches.
