5970 user contemplating move to 480GTX SLI.

That should be fixed in 10.4 Cats.

2x SLI GTX 480 setup, only one to go!

I'd honestly spend $250 on top of the other $500 you're going to spend and get a better case. That looks really cramped/unsafe.

Fermi Not Recommended in Back-To-Back SLI

Condensation will be a problem. ;)

My god, dual display GTX480 IDLE is 90 C???

Just a little bit cynical, eh? ;)

Fermi Not Recommended in Back-To-Back SLI

Sounds like Nvidia should have gone with a triple slot cooler. 3-way SLI is going to be terribly difficult to implement without water cooling/extreme airflow/air-conditioning.

    GTX 480: Your verdict

I voted 1. I'm totally underwhelmed. The icing on the cake is that there aren't any cards for sale on launch day. friggin paper launch...

When should we see normal stock of 5970s?

A 5970 probably costs about double what a 5870 costs but they can't sell it for twice as much. Until Fermi comes out there is no reason for them to lower prices.

    SemiAccurate gets some GTX480 scores

If the 480 really is a 225W let alone a 280W part, then it could easily run that hot if it's not being downclocked/volted at all while idling. 70% doesn't tell us much about the heatsink setup or the fan itself, it only takes into account the ratio of it's current speed to whatever the fan's...

    SemiAccurate gets some GTX480 scores

The whole quote regarding the fans. Don't cut and paste to make a point about the author. He's somewhat skeptical of it as well. It sounds like an early driver/bios issue. If the fans aren't that noticeable at 70% it could be that the fan data isn't being read correctly or it's a fan that has...

    $130 5770 512MB at Newegg ends 1/30

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131328 Promo code: VGA12215 Free shipping, too. I'd jump on it if I didn't already own a 5870. :D

Fermi to be the hottest single chip ever

Nvidia could have their standard-bearer have a TDP equal to that of Cypress, but it would undoubtedly have an undesirable level of performance (for Nvidia, since it will be much closer to the 5870s) and still cost a great deal more to make than the 5870. They would have to sell Fermi-based GPUs...

Fermi to be the hottest single chip ever

 Fermi running hot has more to do with the necessary voltage required to run at the desired clock speed.

    Can't change clocks on 8800gt

if you got the newest drivers off of the Nvidia website they apparently borked overclocking for the moment http://en.expreview.com/2010/01/21/nvidia-196-21-whql-driver-disables-users-to-overclock/6504.html It should be fixed soon. edit: apparently evga fixed it already...

BSN nVidia GF100 Fermi silicon cost analysis, more positive then before

Nvidia has all but stopped production of their GTX 200 series gpus. They just are not competitive. Their cards are inferior at every price point above $150. It seems they'd rather make a small profit on the cards that actually sell than having to subsidize each and every card they sell. Some...
