HP ZR2440w uniformity
In my opinion, from what I see in your picture, something is wrong. On my IPS panel the test page is extremely even. The picture you took looks like it is fairly straight from the front. Your panel should be displaying that more accurately. -

Best screen for up to a grand.
If you don't really need the USB 3.0 ports, then it is probably not worth waiting for. I know there is a 27 inch Asus coming out sometime this year, not sure when. It is probably going to be similar to the Dell U2711and HP ZR2740 monitors that are out already. You may want to check out those... -

The Asus PA246Q monitor you listed should be pretty good in the 24 inch monitor range. It is a wide color gamut monitor aimed more toward professional use, but I would not consider it at the same level as the upper end Eizo or NEC monitors. It should be more than fine for what you need and...
