A combination of RGB color curve adjustment layers and selective color layers. You really just have to play around with it a bit for each individual photo. Making the shadows an off-black and making the highlights an off-white gives a picture depth and mood. Look up cross processing on google...

Same laptop as before, but I replaced the regular screen with a transparent one. You guys should try this with your notebooks- it's a lot of fun (and worth the challenge)! I got a little sloppy and you can see the TV doesn't quite match up but it's better than my first attempt:
