Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
oh and forgot the main difference between why an os should get the win over another one...
try playing doom3 or quake 4 under osx using the same hardware as under vista and you'll see which os is better underneath. vista is 1.5 times faster than osx using the exact same hardware. that is what...
he completely missed the point on why the uac is there (sounds like a doom company to me)
it is there to prevent malware and trojans and worms from launching and executing code.
he assumes double click means that it can only be instantiated from the mouse and not remotly which is naive. also...
well from what i am looking at there is a simple workaround here.
yes it will use fx chips
yes it will use opteron socket f as well.
the memory controller is on the cpu not the mobo.
all the mobo manufacturer needs to do is add support for registered dimms.
i.e. 2 registered dimm...
if you are going to run dedicated servers for counterstrike just run them in the host operating system not a vm. assign a different port per server needed and you're away and running and you'll get petter performance and disk i/o etc..
bf1942 would nned the vm and winxp but agin run them...
persoanlly id go for the x2 4800 and the money you save over the four cores use to buy more ram and a raid array.
the largest time spent waiting for your system is waiting on the harddrives to spit out data or store it. lots of ram alleviates this as does a raid array. also the x2 4800 is...
zero hours of uncompressed mpeg4
as there is no such thing.
mpeg 4 is always compressed at some ratio.
now why don't you just use a nice silverstone case?
you could use a network attached staorage device running 2k or linux for storage of video and dedicate it to a gigabit ethernet port...
your idea for the pci-e x16 lanes for an interconnect would make a good cluster card concept, but not a good dual processor concept.
basically you have recreated the wheel only given it run flat tires and thought it was original. the concept of one cpu talking to another over the pci and...
cover the basics
plenty of ram would be in the range of 2 GB as it isn't going to get hit very hard at all from your use scenario.
larger cache size would do you better than faster MHZ in your processor so you may want to investigate the xeon range as an alternative.
remember "no one...
the opty will either beat or not beat the dual xeons you have.
it all depends on what kind of overclock you get out of the 165.
if you get a big oc then you'll beat the 3.4 xeons.
if you get a small one then you'll be near or just below that setup.
here's a thought though, if you are using...
coupla of thoughts
the benchmark your friend looked at doesn't even have any dual core cpus listed. those are the single core a-64s not x2 processors listed in the benchmarks. for some applications the x2 will be faster than 2 seperate opterons depending on the steppings of the cpus involved...
just curious on this point but why not contract a custom case fabrication at a local fabricating shop and do 40 or so cases in a run. especially if you already have the cad software to design it yourself? this would give you more free time to play at your favorite hobbies and wouldn't cost much...
processor speed in dualie systems need to be matched.
cache sizes need to be matched.
in some cases even the same stepping of cpu needs to be a match.
besides it isn't hard to find a 667 p3 on ebay for cheap that has the same specs as you need or 2 new 1ghz parts that are matched for that...
I'm selling my old parts that consist of
2 matched opteron 240 cpus stepping EE

actually diamonds are continually deteriorating once you remove them from the pressure of their natural enviornment. the more you heat them the faster they deteriorate. at cpu operating temperatures after 1-2 years you would need to remove the thermal paste and reapply as the surface area would...
