What I don't get is that the overall CPU usage isn't that high, just the frequency. It's generating a lot of heat and chewing up the battery.

Just disabled Norton and CPU Hz is still high.

It's getting worse. Whatever it is is using tons of CPU power. It runs for hours now and sometimes slows the system down. It's not a virus, it's somehow connected to the new drive being installed.

Process by CPU:

After about an hour, it goes back to normal and the CPU drops back well below 2Ghz again when idle.

Not sure what that would be, or why it would change just by changing the drive.

I used Samsung software to make an exact duplicate of my old HDD. Even my internet passwords were saved.

Question- if you get one of the thinner SSD drives (like the Samsung) will it be a universal fit in a larger HDD slot? I have a Dell XPS 17" L702X that I want to swap out the HDD for a SDD, but the Samsung I am looking at is thinner than the stock HDD by the specs. Will it work or will it flop...

So, I guess my initial question still stands... will any 2.5" form factor drive fit- is it supposed to be a universal standard?

Where did you find that info? The stock HD is SATA III, so that's why I picked a SATA III SSD....
