Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

Hope it works out for you too. One weird thing. To see larger font on desktop, I go into Personalize, Display, and change to Larger (150%) and once I logged off and log back in, I got no sound. I had to use Medium. I have no idea why it's even related.

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

Wow, finally got this resolved. In the Catalyst Control Center, the Pixel Format setting in My Digital Flat-Panels should be YCbCr 4:2:2 Pixel Format. I hope this infomation will help those that have the same problem. Please close this thread. Thanks.

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

So you were able to get the higher resolution to work with PowerStrip? If you did, I will give it a try. Thanks.

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

I saw the new CCC v12.2. I will try to install that today and see what happens. Thanks. If it doesn't work, I will go with the DVI-HDMI adapter. And save that HDMI slot on my $180 graphic cards for, uhmmmm, maybe as a toothpick holder, lol.

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

Yes. Please see my earlier post, post #18. After that post, I installed CCC ver10.10 (I think) and I got 1440x900 on my TV.... So, with different versions of CCC my TV is able to get (or not get) different resolutions. The problem is definitely in the drivers. I will eventually also use...

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

The thing is, you see, if it doesn't work, it should not work at all. But in this case, as soon as I uninstall CCC, it (the TV) goes right to 1920x1080. With the generic VGA driver. So it does work with the PC at 1920x1080. That is what is bugging me. Also, you can see that different versions...

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

Got some interesting fact. I uninstalled the CCC v12.1 (F8/Driver Sweeper, the works) and installed v11.12. Once installed, this version gave my HDTV 1280x960. This is 3 levels better than the resolution I got with v12.1 (1280x720.) So it has to do with the driver. I installed CCC v11.11 and...

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

It is the Samsung LCD HDTV 1080p LN650. It works at 1920*1080 with the generic drivers. Just the CCC is giving it the problem... . I just noticed someone mentioned this is a common problem with Samsung HDTV at some other forum.

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

The refresh rate is at 60, which is good. It is Extended, and resolution is set separately from the monitor. Thanks for replying.

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

No, I have not try that, as I don't have a cable readily at home. But it is annoying when it is there and not working. :)

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

By saying 'force', do you mean that when you go in the settings for the #2 monitor, the higher resolution (native resolution) is listed but can't select? Is that why you have to 'force' it? If that is the case, how do you force it? On my system, it does shows all the resolutions from 1920x1080...

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

Yes. Or else it would show when the resolution is at 1280x720. Thanks. I meant "...wouldn't show..."

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 & 1920x1080 Resolution Gives Black Screen on HDTV

Thank you for replying. Yes, I did that first thing. I went from 1920x1080 and step by step downward. The resolutions can be selected, but none of them would work. The TV would just be black. Until when I reached 1280x720. Then the TV has picture. I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled...
