Asrock B550 Gaming 4 / AC boards came in today. Both are working fine, but I had to find out the hard way that these boards do not support M.2 SATA drives (NVMe-only).
No big deal since one system was using a NVMe drive, and I had a 1 TB SATA 2.5" SSD (Teamgroup) sitting around for the other...
Thanks, guys.
I was hoping that there was a BIOS trick that could make it recognize it.
No big deal anyways... The PCIe card I'm getting has two slots on it, one that's compatible with SATA and the other that works with NVMe.
I don't exactly remember which vendor on Amazon it was, but...
Hi folks,
I have a 1 TB Verbatim M.2 SATA SSD hard drive that was working fine in my old MSI X470 motherboard that died recently.
I just got a new Asrock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 / ac board and the drive isn't showing up in the UEFI or Windows. There's a steady red LED lit up next to the M.2...
Just to be safe, I took out the old warrior power supply (a 19 year old Antec Truepower Trio 650 watt unit) on one of them, and put in a new Corsair RM750e power supply.
Memtest86 showed no memory errors, even after 4 cycles.
Capacitors all look good (solid state), although I honestly...
Thanks. I'll definitely try that this Monday.
It had originally be setup for CSM mode back in 2018, but after I got rid of the old DVD-RW drive that required that mode, I converted it to UEFI, and changed the UEFI setting. I'll take a look at the settings.
Yeah, if I can keep the old...
Thanks for the suggestions, folks.
CMOS battery socket looked clean, but I replaced the CR2032's. No difference.
I'll take a look at the capacitors Monday morning, for sure. I'm actually curious to see whether or not they're electrolytic or solid state polymer, but that's going to require...
Sometimes I wonder if the phenomenon of identical twins dying shortly after each other applies to motherboards as well...
I have three AM4 systems in my nuclear magnetic resonance facility.
These are my own builds, all currently using AM4 hardware. These systems have been in my personal...
Next time Kyang's in the central Alabama area, he gets several rounds of brew from the Good People Brewing Company, along with fine Southern Barbecue.
Anyways, still looking for that GPU. :)
I'm in the process of finishing up my daughter's first computer build. I have everything in place except for the GPU.
She's getting a Ryzen 5 5500, 16 GB DDR4, and a 500 GB mechanical hard drive. That's plenty for her needs, and should be quite future-proof for a while.
I'm about to put...
Facebook's prime years may be behind it, but it's not dying completely any time soon.
It's like in Citizen Kane, when Charles Foster Kane responds to Mr. Thatcher's report that they lost a million dollars.
In all seriousness, though, they're on a much more firm ground than what Myspace was...
That rig isn't going to be power-hungry at all.
The unit that pendragon1 linked will be more than plenty.
His two biggest power draws will come from the CPU (91 W TDP), and the GPU (120 W max).
Also...
I went from a GeForce 2 GTS to a GeForce Ti3 200.
The difference in smoothness of play in Half Life (actually more of Team Fortress Classic) was quite remarkable at 1024 x 768 or higher resolutions.
At 800x600, the two were similar, but by that time, I had upgraded my monitor.
Cyrix 486 DX2-66 (5V part)...
I tried to overclock it to 80 MHz, since all of the other components in the system worked just fine with an AMD 486 DX-40.
Nope. It would work fine for about 2 minutes after booting up, and then freeze. The CPU wasn't even warm at all.
This would happen...
