I totally didn't realize the 30 and 27 don't have the same dot-pitch. Thats very disappointing, as I was dreaming of putting a 27" above (vertically) a 30" and having them align in width. It truly thought that the 27" wasn't just a cut down 30" panel.

I was under the impression the Gateway had a fair amount of input lag, although my cursory search didnt turn up any hard numbers. Also the xhd3000 appears to have been discontinued without a replacement :(

No I want electronics from a 2560x1440 monitor. Retasking them for the larger resolution should not be that difficult with the caveat that the additional resolution may not support it (but I doubt it).

I wish Dell would just rip the electronics out of the u2711 stuff them in the 3008wfp and be done with the u3011. True everyone is hoping for panel and other enhancements. But I think the 66% reduction in input lag would atleast finally put to bed the 3007wfp vs 3008wfp debate.

Since you list gaming as a potential use, I would recommend the 30". The second monitor isnt of much use in that scenario except for very specific games (like flight simulators).

Actually this is how I run my case, and I can attest to the low-class but purposeful look. Just don't spill anything! There's nothing quite like dropping a cheeto into rotating fan blades aimed at the unprotected interior of your running computer. :D
