In case anyone has this problem and you know its not driver related, then I've found the problem. Ran some diagnostics and it made the problem clear - my video memory is bad.
Had 26 error messages like this:
VESA SVGA Video - Video Memory Test : Fail
Result Code...
1 - I have the latest BIOS (A11)
2 - I did this and it runs better, but still has problems. But I think this is because it changes the video depth to 16-bit, changing the resolution often changes how the artifacts appear (which leads me to think it might be a problem with the video memory)...
