In computer terms at least, there's a framebuffer in GPU memory, and then the GPU sends odd lines every other vertical cycle, and the even lines every other. The non-interlaced source doesn't really make much difference to the output interlacing.

Figured it out myself and found out that because vertical back porch plays the largest part in spending extra horizontal frequency, reducing that will give best results.
