SO is DVI better than VGa quality speaking?

Woah, you bought a 2405 and you have to ask this question? YES.

    HDTV formats... why not standard?

Nah, give me 3840x2160... That way you'd light 3x3 pixels for each pixel of a 720p signal and 2x2 pixels for every pixel of a 1080p signal. Not 1:1, but you do get to view both formats without having to stretch or shrink the image which would be sweeeeeet.

    HDTV formats... why not standard?

Somebody better tell Sony. Sony Computer Entertainment is gonna feel really dumb when they find out Sony Electronics can't build TVs to display the PS3s 1080p signals. Then the Blue Ray guys will feel really stupid when they find out nobody can build a TV to display the 1080p signals the players...

    HDTV formats... why not standard?

Hey, just be glad for what we got... IIRC, it took Herculean pleading on the part of the computer industry to convince the HDTV Grand Alliance to standardize on square pixels. Could you imagine how ridiculous it would be if we couldn't have a 1:1 pixel mapping between data as displayed on a...

Which CRT's have the focus adjust holes on the side?

The NEC FE2111SB definately has it.... Picked up a used one for $250; It was a little soft but tweaking the focus made it look really nice, definately made it worth the price. The "catch", is that the actual adjustment screws are deeeep inside the monitor. You need a screwdriver that has a...

    OLED News?

Looks like SED will be the next new display technology to make it to the market. Toshiba's bringing pilot production online this month and hopefully out in volume early next year. But it doesn't sound like the tech will make it's way to computer displays any time soon.

    Dell’s UltraSharp 2005FPW widescreen 20-inch LCD monitor.

Have you installed an inf file for the monitor? I don't remember if I needed to do this during the short time I owned a 2005, but it's worth a try. If the card can support 1600x1200 it has enough pixels for the 2005, so maybe the card just doesn't think the monitor supports that res...

Will the Dell 2405FPW be able to display PS3's 1080p WITHOUT HDMI?

HDMI is kind of like DVI + audio + copy protection. The big question isn't so much whether or not it's possible to convert the video portion to DVI (it is), but whether or not your display device will have to support HDCP. If PS3 requires HDCP, then even if you split off the DVI portion with...

    Dell’s UltraSharp 2005FPW widescreen 20-inch LCD monitor.

1680x1050 is about 10% fewer pixels than 1600x1200, so there's plenty of framebuffer to run the 2005 at native res.

    Dell 2005fp Packaging Question

I'm pretty sure it was face down. But there should be a diagram somewhere, either printed on the box or on a flyer that came with the monitor. Check the box's flaps.

    2005FPW or 2405FPW

I have standards. To put your comment in perspective, how many 2005s did you go through to get one you were happy with? :p Nick

    2005FPW or 2405FPW

2005 is a piece of junk. It does not deserve consideration. Nick

a headsup regarding Dell return policy

Personally, I was upset about the part of their return policy where they send me a defective, unusable piece of crap (the 2005FPW), and then I have to pay to send it back.

    Samsung 204T first impressions

Mmm... Interesting to hear about the blacks. I returned a 2005 a few weeks back because the "black" and hot-spotting from the poor backlighting were unacceptable. I've had my eye on this one.

    1080p PS3 Displays

They advertise that it will accept a 1080i signal, which it will. But it needs to be downsampled for display at the native 720p. But they're hardly being deceptive; If you browse the TVs on their web site the first thing listed under features is "Cinema Smooth 720p light engine," and under...
