When I first purchased the M10s, I was slightly dismayed at the lack of 'oomph.' While these sound beautiful as far as nearfield goes, steping back a few feet or off to the side definitely hurts the sound a bit. For a little while I considered selling the M10s and purchasing the Promedias...
Are you interested more in sound fidelity or 'have fun volume'?
The Swan M10s are decidedly much 'quieter' than the Promedia 2.1s, but the Swans will give you better sound quality overall.
Note that with the M10s you have to acomplish some tricky speaker positioning that might not work...
Definitely not a hackintosh. It's a G4 12" Powerbook. There are some open shelves below the desk surface, so it's resting in one of those on top of four NERF gun whistling darts for more clearance ;-)
You got a lot of flack on the other thread for it ghost, but you'll know what I mean when I say that it sounds worse anywhere else.
The M10 sound is incredibly intimate; not designed for 'room parties' or whathaveyou (although it'd do alright). The midwoofer 'needs' to be directly in front...

I suppose some qualifications are in order. What I was looking for was a simple setup that would sound decent and remain <$200. The Polks started necessitating the purchase of many other accessories that I simply didn't want to deal with. A sub, a receiver (I was borrowing a friend's to try them...
So I ended up purchasing the Polks, and they just didn't measure up. So much so that I returned them. The highs were tinny and the bass lacked definition. Granted, I lack an ideal sound card/receiver arrangement.
Classical sounded phenomenal, as did jazz. But rock and hip hop were almost...
Looking for 2.0 setup suggestions that are bookshelf speakers, not prepackaged deals (no Klipsch Promedias...).
I've looked at the Insignias and the Polk R150s (which were $50 at frys.com until they sold out before I could pick some up).
Budget is less than $100. I intend on finding a...
I'm not saying that they're GOING to fail at all. Swan is a reputable producer that makes high quality audio-gear.
But that being said, there are always going to be lemons. Lemons that are normally quite easy to replace because they are under some sort of warranty from the retailer. With the...
