4K Video editing RAID 0 configuration… What to do?

Cachecade licenses are ~$300.00. So you'd have to factor that into the additional cost of a card that supports it. Crossflashing the variants is hit or miss whether the licensing will actually work. So purchasing a cheaper Dell variant for example doesn't always get you functioning cascade...

4K Video editing RAID 0 configuration… What to do?

You're post is too long... so I'm going to focus on what you seem to have highlighted and go from there.... 1) Enterprise SAS drives are typically faster with lower latency. So they would be better for performance RAID configuration. 2) More spindles = more performance. So 8x1 is better than...

Is it just me, or is Plex really buggy?

Do you have more information on this? Or a dedicated thread somewhere?

    Netflix Starts Streaming 4K Content

Exactly. Their 1080p stream is maxed out at 8Mbps and looks terrible. Where you can get it their 5Mbps 720p stream looks significantly better. The majority of their markets only stream at 1.5Mbps 720p though which also looks terrible.

Posting for a co-worker: looking for NAS recommendations

Cheap NAS and transcoding don't go together. You're looking at $600 minimum. Take a look at the Plex tracking doc for actual results. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhqU12yGv_OxdC1VYjYtMmRiSlVReVZhNVBLZ0JxSmc#gid=0

Can you flash the M1015 to LSI 9211-4i IT?

@OP, do you have your card setup yet? How has the performance been?

Can you flash the M1015 to LSI 9211-4i IT?

My test was done on a Z77 machine with a 3770K running 4.8GHz / 16GB RAM. I agree the machine specs can play a part but I think I ruled that out with each drive being able to reach it's full bandwidth capability while in the x8 slot. I had no problem hitting 1.2GB/s. In the x4 slot I was topping...

WD My Cloud 3TB Network Box -Not ready for Prime Time

Yeah Synology has really pulled away from the rest of it's competition in terms of raw throughput... and everything else for that matter. Some of the more expensive Thecus, QNAP, Asustor and Netgear boxes have great throughput as well. Thecus is probably the only other brand that offers entry...

Can you flash the M1015 to LSI 9211-4i IT?

So by that logic each lane is capable of at least double the HDD capability in terms of read/write throughput. Therefore you could say that an x4 slot would be perfectly capable of handling 8 drives all running at full speed. But from my own tests that isn't the case. When you have a ratio of 2...

WD My Cloud 3TB Network Box -Not ready for Prime Time

But... but... it says "Gigabit Ethernet and a Dual-Core processor deliver blazing-fast file transfers" lol I'm fairly certain those WD cloud devices have always had terrible throughput.

Can you flash the M1015 to LSI 9211-4i IT?

True. However, that doesn't clarify how those lanes are utilized. It would seem it's 1:1... Edit: That is to say.... if you had a SSD capable of 600MB/s on a PCIe x8 HBA in a x8 slot it would be limited to a theoretical 500MB/s due to the single lane bandwidth capacity... Edit2: That doesn't...

Can you flash the M1015 to LSI 9211-4i IT?

Are PCIe lanes shared? I assumed they were not. I based my comment on a test I had done where I created a FlexRAID pool with 8 drives (7 data 1 parity). Once with the card in PCIe x8 and again with the card in PCIe x4. The calculation took 7 hours while in the PCIe x8 slot and almost 13 hours in...

Can you flash the M1015 to LSI 9211-4i IT?

It will work in a x4 slot but at half the total bandwidth. So if you're doing something that is reading or writing across more than 4 drives you're going to notice a significant slowdown. If you were able to successfully flash the 8i to a 4i your B port wouldn't work anymore.

dell perc h310 vs IBM M1015

It most likely is a driver issue. Though I see errors on the controller in any OS with the Dell firmware. Once the LSI firmware is flashed it seems good to go. I haven't done as much testing with the H200 though. Most of my testing has been done on the H310 since that is the one that can still...

dell perc h310 vs IBM M1015

I am. I honestly haven't done any testing in anything else but since the resets happened every boot and whenever I generated high IO I would imagine it could impact other platforms as well. It would be difficult to rule out firmware all together and say the issue is isolated to the driver.
