Its a question of yield. Perfect yield would show all HD6950s work. This is of course not likely. See GTX cards as dominant example :)
I can' t understand why 3xSli have been discussed in a thread about unlocking shaders in HD6950 btw...
Actually I think it took 3 revisions. And from that you can calculate the time it takes to WHQL a driver. There were never a hotfix for that so we all had to wait for Microsoft getting their thumb...
It was also the first problem that actually annoyed me with AMD drivers since 2008. I never...
These are minor stuff that probably will be addressed in a beta first. Main reason why it takes long time with both nvidia and AMD drivers is microsoft. The time for getting a driver through WHQL is several months I think.
If HD6970 is on level of HD5970 that would be fantastic. And something that have never happened on the same processnode.
Dissapointment?
Some are never satisfied :)
This is actually sensible, Whatever they did to improve utilization of shaders in Barts I would expect to carry over to Cayman to a large degree. Remember initial rumours that NI (Then SI) would have evergreen shaders but utilize NI architecture improvements, NI shaders would come later. That's...
I get kicks out of engineering excellence. HD6870 is really a marvel as compared to GTX460 that has 50% larger die size but distinctly lower performance. So voting with my heart there is really
no competition.
Thinking with wallet GTX460 is an obvious deal though.
I do think they have to keep to 1,2GB for 570. The smaller memory buss is there for a cost reason and these cards are not memory bound except in a few odd circumstances. We are talking around 10% faster than HD6870 which have an even smaller bus width.
