HP Microserver - Fast enough to serve LTO6 Autoloader?

The microservers don't support DirectPath by default. You could swap the CPU out though for one that does... http://b3n.org/installed-xeon-e3-1230v2-in-gen8-hp-microserver/

    LUNs dropping in Nexenta

iSCSI works fine but it's not fast enough for my needs. The SAN will be hosting Tier 1 storage for my VMs for both vSphere and Hyper-V and Tier 2 for file storage.

    LUNs dropping in Nexenta

Happy to but in OI, Omni and Solaris I can't get my Emulex cards to present visible LUNs to ESXi. They show connected and I configure everything the same as I do on Nexenta but nothing is seen on vSphere. Nexenta is the only product I've found that comes close to working so far :(

    LUNs dropping in Nexenta

Well decided to keep Nexenta running for a few days with no VMs running - it's stayed up with no problems. Started one of my VMs today and within half an hour my LUNs are showing Dead or Error in vSphere. Nexenta still responsive - all commands suggested above return normal results. fmadm...

    LUNs dropping in Nexenta

the CPU using anything available is annoying too in Nexenta. I've tried OI and Solaris 11 but couldn't get the LUNs to show in ESX, I must have been missing a setting or package. Nexenta is the first OS I've found that I can actually get LUNs presented to ESX on. When I run the commands and...

    LUNs dropping in Nexenta

zpool status seems to freeze when bringing back config when it's not working. It shows online and then stops responding. When working everything comes back ok and no errors found. I'll try the other commands you suggested.

    LUNs dropping in Nexenta

Hi, Can anyone help me diagnose and fix my homebrew SAN? When it works I'm seeing upwards of 700mb/s performance but it only works for half an hour to an hour before the LUNs appear as dead in ESX (which kills vSphere almost completely). I have tried disabling Hardware Accelerated Locking...

    Anyone know anything about Solaris?

I guess that's a no! Anyone know of any Solaris forums that aren't abandoned where I can ask this?

    Anyone know anything about Solaris?

So I'm having problems with all flavours of Solaris and Emulex HBAs. I know this used to be a problem (as I've used qlogic before) but I thought this was resolved? I have a virtualised Solaris 11 box and have passed through a LP Emulex HBA. Now I can't seem to get the HBA to run in Target...

    OpenIndiana based SAN (help!)

I'm trying OmniOS but it seems to have a problem with the P400 at boot at the moment, will investigate further. I have a PERC5i I can try. This is a home build so I can't afford to go out and buy an LSI card as much as I'd like to! The IBM card doesn't seem to appear on eBay much in the UK at...

    OpenIndiana based SAN (help!)

I figured I was more likely to get a response in here than in the OS forums. Anyway I have previously had OI working perfectly as a FC based SAN, the only problem was the array was too slow to host my VMware disks. I've now upgraded to a SAS array and have an HP P400 card installed. In OI...

    FreeNAS Recovering Extents

I have a backup of everything really important, but it did have my only copies of my ripped movies. I can re rip everything but it's an 8TB system and I'd rather not if the data is intact and can be recovered. The volume has been imported no problems but I need to recover/recreate the extent...

    FreeNAS Recovering Extents

Well I've figured out what happened, I only had a 1GB USB stick when I tried to upgrade so the upgrade has failed and part installed over the previous FreeNAS. I can't seem to use the roll back option either on boot so that must have been corrupted. Anyone have any ideas? Would prefer not to...
