IPS-based gaming monitor - what to choose?

I don't see any banding in my image with a cheap Qnix on stock settings. Appart from what NCX said, CRTs don't have perfect geometry, and will blur a background which already has banding. Steam does have banding in the source, it's normal that you see it. But if you see it in my image, then...

IPS-based gaming monitor - what to choose?

Use a proper image to test banding, because in the NVIDIA case it's clear that it is a staircase on purpose, and in the Steam case the background is probably a photo which already has banding in the source (not confirmed though). Use this: http://madshi.net/banding.png

    Freesync reviews and displays released.

Thanks for the comments hint guys, didn't read them. Thing is, G-Sync is doing exactly the same as we are suggesting in the low end of the range, but instead of doing it on the GPU is doing it on the monitor, and it seems to work. If that works somewhat okay, doing it on the GPU is probably...

    Yes, wherever you can.

IPS-based gaming monitor - what to choose?

Try playing with the gamma. Since I moved from CRTs to LCDs I found the same washed out look, mostly because the lack of contrast, which also affects the color perception. Increasing your gamma won't make the contrast any better, but it improves the visual sensation a lot and removes a lot of...

    Freesync reviews and displays released.

I'm really confused about what happens when the frame rate drops below the minimum refresh of the monitor. In the PCPer review they say that when the number of frames feed to their BenQ XL2730Z drops below its 40 Hz minimum rated display rate, the display keeps refreshing at 40Hz for all FPS...

Eizo Foris FG2421: 120hz VA Panel

Or maybe you guys just don't want to show your monitor sucking. Any occurrence of that kind of color will look like crap in real life, like it happened to me:

Eizo Foris FG2421: 120hz VA Panel

I don't think we'll ever see how these pics known to cause the border shit in the Eizo look in one of those supposedly perfect monitors. Call me exceptical or prove me wrong. :)

Eizo Foris FG2421: 120hz VA Panel

Looks like I wasn't the only one looking to replace my trusty 2233RZ :D My recommendation is that if you want to play lottery, play with the Korean monitors. If not, get the eizo 2336 if you can tolerate 60hz and want to play safe. Avoid this one.

Dunno if they were being serious or not, probably not for obvious reasons, but that says a lot about their tests.

Eizo Foris FG2421: 120hz VA Panel

Only 10 times? For 500€ this monitor is a joke. I just can't accept those flaws for the price. If only all of them were so perfect like the center and right ones Vega shows in all those photos... After the FG2421 fiasco I took the gamble and got myself a QNIX 2710, no dead pixels, no...

Eizo Foris FG2421: 120hz VA Panel

It was the same here. At low brightness you can't really see it, but at +30 it's VERY noticeable. DP and DVI, both were the same.

Eizo Foris FG2421: 120hz VA Panel

Who said that? Genuinely interested, mine certainly got worse as the brightness was higher, as expected.

Eizo Foris FG2421: 120hz VA Panel

No 60Hz mate. 120Hz Turbo240 on and off, black level to the minimum does nothing. Shit sample? Most likely. However, others have reported the same issues and posted similar pics, so... Also the camera exagerates it a bit, but seriously, black level is a joke for a VA panel. But either way...

Eizo Foris FG2421: 120hz VA Panel

Time for some pics. It's almost impossible to capture what I'm really looking at in real life, but these are good enough. Black in a completely dark room. The blue on the left comes from a LED fan in the case and the keyboard. Black in real world. 2233RZ on the right, Eizo on the...
