    This is old, but just to give my head up for the Seasonic X-750 PSU. It is top notch server grade PSU and it supplies enough current single rail to the molex connectors for disks. I saw a lot of 4224 based systems running full of 2..4TB drives without a single issue for years off a Seasonic 750...

    I would also prefer two 4224, the second being connected by SFF 8088 to the first (either via expander ot 6 direct lanes) and put into 19" rack instead of using these overpriced Chenbro 48-bay case... but having them on top of a table a *single* box is maybe less risky :-)

    Yes, I would definitely need an angled connector as my rack (a Sun StorEdge 900mm 42U) has a front door which unfortunately I would not be able to close with a standard cable. The recessed front of the SE3016 is ok, but not the SF8088 connector in addition. I was thinking of mounting the SE3016...

    Yes, the original LSI card is more expensive, simply because it has RAID5 functionality and with the IBM M1015 you would need to purchase a separate key to enable RAID5 (which you don't need for IT mode anyway), thus the M1015 is cheaper that the original LSI card.

    The IBM M1015 can be had very cheap about $80 on eBay and cross flashed to LSI firmware in IT mode. It is LSI SAS2008 chip based.

    Guys, how do you rack mount the SE3016 without rails? Only by fastening it to the rack by screwing the front only? If two of them are mounted back to back in a rack, how does cooling work? The fans will blow into each other... looks very strange to me. I was thinking about getting a Norco...
