I'm at 4k (and 60 hz), it's in the title. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I went with a $97 5500. I know the 5600/5600x are clearly superior but this is only meant to last my aging system another 18 months or so. Then I’ll build a new system with Granite Ridge or whatever Intel’s next gen...
Thanks for the feedback. I know it's going to be fairly game-dependent, but just wanted to get some opinions about whether I would be leaving much of the 3080 on the table. Been looking at the Microcenter bundles for awhile but too many other expenses to justify a bigger upgrade.
I’m currently on a Ryzen 1700 with a 1070Ti. I can get a good price on a used 3080 from a friend. Hoping I can keep my current B350 mb with PCIe 3.0 and Wraith cooler to save $, and that I can just drop in a 3600 and the 3080 and call it a day. Decent plan?
I wouldn’t be buying anything for the next few years, other than a new GPU to replace my 1070ti, but appreciate that in 4-5 years I’ll have better options to drop a new CPU in the motherboard I buy now. Thanks all
For someone (like me) looking at doing a new build, wouldn’t the 7700X for $100 less or the 13700K bundle for the same price as the 7900X be a better value?
Pitingres - yes, the fan speed does change as temps increase, but I expected it to get higher (looks like other people see RPMs close to 3,000).
Pendragon - I see now, it was on balanced but I changed to high performance. Do I need to change the minimum or maximum processor states? Both are at...
Neapolitan6th - I'm not trying to OC the RAM, it's rated at 3200. But I'm happy enough with it running at 3000 for now. It's rated at 1.35 V and I bumped it to 1.36 in BIOS and VDDCR SOC to 1.1 in Ryzen Master and it won't last more than a few minutes at 3200, but that's a fight for another day...
The only mode options are silent, standard, performance, full, and custom. I just set it to "full" and Speccy is still showing RPMs in the 1100s. There's only one CPU fan header on my mobo (http://asrock.pc.cdn.bitgravity.com/Manual/AB350%20Pro4.pdf)
First, apologies in advance if this has been covered elsewhere, I've spent a good amount of time looking around (on [H] and elsewhere) and haven't found much info. I'm trying to figure out if my Wraith Spire is spinning up properly as temps increase.
My system:
1700 with Wraith Spire

Thanks, I may not have made my history with this chip clear. It was at 4.1 on stock voltage for a long time (4.2 at stock wasn't stable). I have recently started trying to get up to 4.5 if possible. At 4.4 it couldn't handle more than 10 seconds of Prime95 until I got up to 1.38v... I then...
You're right, on one of the guides I found says "Load-Line Calibration: As the CPU accepts more work, its power draw increases. This in turn causes a voltage drop (vdrop), which is automatically compensated by the motherboard by increasing the applied voltage slightly."
Am I correct in thinking...
I have some related questions that I figured I'd put here rather than start a new thread.
I have a 2500k that has been at 4.1ghz for a long time as I didn't adjust any settings when 4.2ghz proved to be a bit unstable. I'm now trying to get more out of it but I'm a bit confused about...
