I was wandering in Tyan's website and I came across a new BIOS update (V1.08), which adds the HPC mode configuration.

Did anyone try this? Any ideas about its' function?
This is correct. Quad cores really suffer. On a dual card setup, the task manager shows 26-28% of cpu usage. On my 950 I had slightly lower tpf using -smp 5 than -smp 6. On a 970 two cards used 15-17% of the cpu and -smp 10 gave me the best results.
Try rebooting on every unit. It works 100% in my case (2xE5649, Z8NA-D6). Before reboot TPF is about 35:30-36:00 and after reboot drops at about 32:30-33:00 and makes the deadline with an average of 3-3.5 hours to spare. Without reboot it fails to meet the deadline. This 3 minute gain in TPF...
Yes, tried it with -smp 48 on a 8102 and the TPF increased dramatically. To be honest, I didn't wait to complete a whole 1% because it was taking too long. I calculated the difference between stop/start steps, divided 2500 (=1%) by that number and multiplied by the time taken:

-bigbeta, but I think it's pure luck if you get one at this point, judging from what I've read here

They are not so diffused yet.
Really? I wasn't aware of this. Thank you for the info, I'll try that tomorrow.
8101: TPF 17:00-17:12, PPD 240-245K
6901: TPF 7:38-7:48, PPD 260-270K
A few hours ago I grabbed my first 8102, which is a real sweetie: TPF 12:06-12:12, PPD 400-405K
All numbers with the 3+1 setup.
Hi Charlie,
It's nice to hear my info has been helpful. I use plain -smp and -bigbeta. However, in 2+2 configuration, I tried several -smp xx combinations with xx>32 and were always mapped 32 cores. The messages in the command line were "40 cores detected" and "mapping NT from 40 to 32".
Now...
Well, I totally agree with that and that's what I intended to do right from the beginning, but...I live in Greece my friend :( And in case you wonder why this fact makes such a difference, believe me it does!
I may order a nice used 6174 from the US for about $400 and pay the double or even more...
I think the PPD is about 155K. 250K are the estimated points you will receive when you submit the WU.
Unfortunately for me it is all stock (Tyan board). OCNG is only for SM boards. When I bought the board OCNG wasn't released :( I would have gone the SM way.
Forgot to mention that for some...
I do actually run a mixed setup of MCs on a Tyan S8812 for about 8 months with zero issues. Until yesterday I was running 2x6174 + 2x6128 non-HE. All cpus run at 2.0GHz and under -bigadv/-bigbeta/smp -xx it was always mapping 32 cores out of 40.
When I first bought the board, I was using 4x6128...
