    Camera Equipment Acquisition Syndrome

I've been going through this since purchasing a used EOS 5D. My solution is to rent lenses until I decide on the 2-3 I can't live without. And then I can still rent. I have a favorite service, but their inventory is limited so I'm reluctant to mention the name. I'll give it up though if asked.

How many dead pixels do you have?

LCD2490: 1 dead sub-pixel, glows red on a pure black screen. Doesn't show on muted colors. Can't see it watching movies/tv. You'd have to have at least 5 of these grouped together for NEC to consider replacing it, if I remember correctly.

    Just ordered the NEC 2490

Just chiming in. I've got a 2490 as well. It really is all that, but it's overkill for me. I wish there was a slightly cheaper 24" H-IPS on the market without all the internal calibration stuff I don't need.

A fresh look at an old favorite: my new NEC LCD2490WUXI SV

Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I didn't want to start a new thread (and I don't have enough posts to post in the for sale forum). I am selling a LCD2490WUXi-BK-SV (with SpectraView), but I'd prefer to deal with someone local in Chicago. I just thought I'd throw this out there. Mine...

    Athlon 64 X2 5000+ - Temperature question

There is a pretty well-known issue with the core sensors in Brisbane chips. I don't have the links in front of me, but you will find a lot of information with a Google search. There is an additional cpu sensor (on the motherboard, I think) that most people pay attention to. In my own...

    Show Your LCD(s) setups!!!

Very nice. Silentpcreview loves that power supply. I kind of wish I went Intel now (with the 45nm chips out) having completed a quiet-as-possible build not too long ago. Obviously you can't squeeze that stuff into a small HDTV case, but you got a lot of machine there. If only someone would...

    Dead Pixels

I voted for 1 dead pixel, but it really ought to have been 1 dead subpixel on my LCD2490. If you happen to be looking at just the right spot from less than a few feet against a totally black background, you might catch the tiny red dot. Otherwise I don't see it. Very occasionally it will...

    NEC 24inch - differences

I wish you luck. I had a hard time getting information on a straight 2490/2690 side-by-side comparison (meaning actual pictures against the same content), much less a 2470/2490. In any case, it seems pretty well established that the H-IPS panels are better for color critical applications. But...

    Show Your LCD(s) setups!!!

I'm pretty sure this is it, http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00115534. It can definitely take the weight. Remember, there is a steel frame bolted underneath that mounts the A-frame legs. Here's what the frame looks like:

    My NEC LCD2690WUXi review

Agreed. I think part of the problem is that it is very difficult to convey the subtle differences between some of these monitors which can vary significantly in price. I know that when I was considering 24-26" monitors, I had a very hard time putting a price on the differences between say, the...

    Show Your LCD(s) setups!!!

It is, sort of. I didn't like the desk surface options, so I got the adjustable a-frame legs and mounted them to a table I found elsewhere in the store. The top I found was actually cheaper, quite solid for a laminate construction, and has a nice melamine top (although it tends to show smudges...

    My NEC LCD2690WUXi review

Thanks for the help. So I decided to drop a load on the LCD2490. Money wasn't the reason I chose this rather than the 2690. It's just without the chance to see both in person I'll never know what I might be missing. Besides, even though the 2690 is capable of more vibrant colors, I'm not...

    My NEC LCD2690WUXi review

I have a quick question that I don't think needs a new thread, so I'll post it here. Also, my question has been asked before, but so far I haven't found a satisfying answer, there may not be one. I have read about the wide gamut issue here and on dpreview, but obviously I don't have the ability...
