Anyone concerned that 2gb Vram will become obsolete once PS4 and Xbox One launch?

Since I prefer no AA, and run 8X AF, I'll keep my max textures at 1080p for a long time. That's because I have a 7950 (1100/1400) with 3GB of VRAM. Believe what you want. I've been in this game long enough to have bought the original Voodoo card, followed by Quantum 3D's dual Voodoo2 12...

Vid card for gaming at 1900x1200 at high setings for Tomb Raider/BF4/Starcitizen?

Exactly. I've heard the argument that .5X VRAM was plenty. Im talking in ALL these cases of max (mid to upper) card memory available 32MB 64MB 128MB 256MB 512MB 1GB 2GB In every case, someone would argue that 1/2 as much was plenty, or that some middling amount (768MB instead of...

7950 coming today, help with OC?

Any benchmark based upon GPU will work. You are just looking for the point where you stop gaining performance. Just to be sure, once you see lack of gain, re-run then bench at least once to verify it isn't just a bad sample.

7950 coming today, help with OC?

Link is broked at work here. The BIOS switch is on the Vapor-X, and maybe the FLEX. If you move it, my understanding is that it will move the voltage up, as well as core clocks. I have seen people post saying that it also locks the voltage when done. Mine is set that way, and it is not an...

7950 coming today, help with OC?

For quick and easy OC without worry, you can just go with base clock +100, mem clock + 40, and the power slider to +20%. I do manual fan at 50%, but that part is up to you. This is n CCC, with stock voltage. In trixx, I would focus on the fan profile. START it at 40% at min temp, awork up...

    7870 Tahiti vs 7950

7950- the performance is so much more future proof. ~$40 for an extra year use, i'd bet.

    Sapphire 7970 Squealing

My daughter's mice squeak if they get hungry. Have you tried putting cheese or crushed oreos into the fan intake? It may actually be the page using some GPU accel (Flash, etc), and fan speed ramping up. If so, then dust may be the culprit. That, or slight looseness/misalignment of the fan...

    Radeon 5970 > 7970

Look: It is TWO(2) 1GB cards running crossfire in a single housing. EVERY texture is duplicated on the cards. This means that if you have 512MB of textures, you use 512 PER CARD. If 4X AA at the given resolution costs you 512MB, that is also PER CARD.

    Asus 670 vs. Asus 7970

My 7950 is not loud at all. Power draw is quite low, except in-game. Is the OP gaming 24/7, or is that small wattage difference just your gentle nudg towards buying a lesser card? BTW mine's at 1050 Mhz, so pretty OC'ed. I think you're splitting hairs here. I actually believe that you...

    Asus 670 vs. Asus 7970

Physx isn't free. If you use it, you WILL lose some overall performance. I don't see any 2GB card as being very forward-looking, at all. I would chime in with the 7950 ( mine's a vapor-x, Sapphire), but it has a few less (112 vs 128) texture units, which can subtly limit post-fx processing...

    AMD, thank you for AM3+

^This^ .... and I will add that I consider the interoperability of various processors from AM2+ to AM3 as one of my favorite aspects of the company's lineups. I could be wrong, but I recall Intel forcing several board changes in the same time frame, if you were staying "current". It seems...
