Klipsch Promedia 5.1's - Amp repair

Just wanted to chime in here.... I have my old 5.1 amp sitting here. It was in the middle of being repaired years ago, using what was lying around, so it has heatsinks everywhere. The BASH module area (with the large coils) received new FETs, and the power supply received a couple resistors...

Klipsch Promedia 5.1's - Amp repair

Yes, I'd looked at it more closely after I posted...it had looked like a 2.1 with internal sub connection. It also seems the more I look, the more I find that even repaired amps die again, or that these amps are something of a losing battle. I could probably build an aluminum, or even wood plate...

Klipsch Promedia 5.1's - Amp repair

Hi all, I was part of this thread some time ago, and started repairs on my own gifted dead Promedia 5.1 set. It's been a couple years, and I've forgotten most of what I needed to repair it. I remember replacing the FETs on the digital converter (BASH section) and a dead resistor on the power...

    AMD Catalyst 11.2 Now Available

I have a 6970 here, and could not run dual monitors at stock speeds. RAM speeds were full, and core was 550. I would get gray/dark gray lines across the screen with just the desktop (win 7 aero), or both screens would go black on any 3D app I tried. I'd also get artifacts out of nowhere when on...

    6970 idle temp 55-60c?

I'll pipe in here. I have a Sapphire 6970 myself, and set up Trixx to run fan speeds near 40% for idle. It's a bit loud, but I'm not crazy from it yet. It idles around 46-48C with 38-42% fan. I'm running dual 23" 1920x1080 monitors. I set up a profile in Trixx to force the card to idle at 350...

AMD Phenom II X4 965BE or Intel Core i5 650?

Why get the 965 if he's going to OC? The 955 will do the 965 speeds. Heck, I have an X3 740 that's pushing faster than a 970BE, and unlocked to a quad...cost $89. Stuff that in the board, and see what happens. Based on everywhere I've read regarding successful unlocks, you've about an 84%...

    AMD 1090T for $229

Wow, that price is going down...I paid $295 April 27th, when it debuted. Still a great price then, and I've no regrets, but this is even better. No reason to buy the X4 series IMO. The X3 will usually unlock, and the X6 series is downright mean.

    A few noob psu questions

If you can still find the PC Power and cooling Quad 750, it's also a very good, tough, PSU. What is your budget? A PSU is something that should never be skimped on in a build....it provides power to every piece, as well as protection. If it is weak, or breaks, it can potentially destroy...

    PSU Suggestions

How about dual 1500 watt supplies? More than enough headroom for throwing whatever at it. Just be sure to run off at least 2x 20 amp breakers.

    Corsair 650tx 1090t/6870xfire???

Read the [H] review....the 750 can have a bit of ripple on the 12V rail, but is othewise good. Hardware secrets also does a similar review, and explains the design of the PSU. The 650 and 750 are both made by CWT.

    Corsair 650tx 1090t/6870xfire???

It should be enough. The poster above noted the 650HX series, but for $10 less (and free shipping), you can get the 750TX, which will have a little more headroom, and should be just fine. Do you have a specific budget to meet? If not, I'd suggest the 750...a little extra potential never hurt...

What kind of panel is this?

E-IPS still has that type of color shift, but it's not as severe.

MSI Motherboard caught fire! What really happen?

This is a known issue with the 790fxa and 890fxa boards. I speak from personal experience. The ultimate cause...the VRM heatsink doesn't sit properly flat and contact all VRM. The result, for you, is more severe than me. I just had a blistered board. MSI is NOT admitting any defects, and treats...

AMD 550BE or 640 Quad for mainly gaming?

I'd say forego the whole instand quad thing, and try a 740 tri-core. I bought one not too long ago, for $89 (no heatsink...had one sitting around). It unlocked to a quad, and is currently running as my frag box CPU @ 3.67 Ghz on 1.38 volts. It's also a BE....so unlocked. Even if it stays a...
