    FX is Back!

I'm interested as long as they don't repeat the mistake of the Phenom II X6. To this date, I never quite understood the benefits of six cores if they are frequently outpaced by quad cores from Intel.

Ditching for or adding a Bulldozer? Anyone?

hmmff. so this is another one of those moment where people should try not to upgrade until the release of newer technology, with the difference here being that most people don't appear all that excited or impressed. any word as to when exactly Bulldozer would be released, and how much of a...

LOL Carly Fiorina an AMD CEO candidate?

think tech companies should mostly have experienced engineers on their management staff. Research and development is the bread and butter of any tech firm, and it's only logical to have a senior scientist or engineer be the head of the company. Hiring MBAs to manage product development is also...

What should I upgrade next for better sound?

Can't comment on music/movie playback but I thought xi-fi is better than the xonar for 3d sounds in games. If money is no object, from most user accounts, the current best card appears to be the Xi-Fi Titanium HD.

Ditching for or adding a Bulldozer? Anyone?

so for those who are thinking of a new system or a cpu upgrade ( be it amd or intel ), is it best to wait until bulldozer because of the likelihood of price cuts for Phenom II and Sandy Bridge cpus?

Best i5 or i7 CPU for a non Overclocker

Why not buy a H61 board with a retail 2600 and use the saved cash for a faster gpu or ssd or something? Why should someone get an expensive P67 board with Thermaltake Frio for an extra 500-700 mhz ( which isn't much by today's standards ) if he can use the excess money for faster gpu?

Best i5 or i7 CPU for a non Overclocker

quite frankly I don't understand the concept of k-series processors. Why not just sell i5-2500 chips that are clocked at 4 ghz or higher instead of selling 2500k processors for which there is a small enthusiasts market? I personally think I would rather pay a higher price for a higher speed...

My i7 2600k box is branded "i5" in several places

I remember buying a P4 CPU with Hyperthreading many years back. The retail box and the included sticker, however, only had logos of the original Pentium 4 without HT. The chip itself works fine to this day, and is always recognized to have hyperthreading.

    16:9 vs 16:10

I wish there was a high res 24 inch led/lcd that has the same ratios as a 19 inch. I don't know why >20 inch screens are mostly widescreen and can cause problems with programs or games not filling up the whole screen or look very distorted.

    24 inch vs 19 inch

What do people here think of a Samsung BX2431 24 inch LED? Are there any better suggestions? The BX2431 is the one I'm contemplating but I couldn't make an outright decision because I'm unable to see it in person. As I also said before, I'm afraid of seeing old games that won't fill up the...

    i5-2500k paired with ATI 6950

For the native res of a 24 inch led monitor, would a 2500k and an ATI 6950 with 2 gb be a good gaming setup? Will one of them bottleneck another? For how many years will this pair be able to play games maxed out on a 24 inch res? Also, I don't like upgrading. Instead of upgrading a single...

    best media for backups

I have lots of old files that I want to store for my entire life. (I understand that no form of backup is guaranteed to be permanent so I expect to have to make backups all over again on different media at least a few times in the long term. ) I'm thinking of storing my files on BD-RE media...

    shopping list for i5-2500k build

ok. I added a 3rd party cpu fan and changed the computer case. I don't know about an ssd drive. In my opinion, their storage capacities are small and I don't like how there is a finite number of writing and erasing cycles. Then again, I've never used one and I can be convinced if there is a need...
