Need Help building a small, quiet, vSphere Home Lab

Beauty. Thanks for the information so far. Gonna take some time to look through all the options provided. Also, yes while I might take some liberties with the controller I end up using for thee VSAN storage (for example, Queue depth is significantly less important to me since I will be running...

Need Help building a small, quiet, vSphere Home Lab

Hey guys, Going into full research mode for my next home lab. I have been using a Nested ESXi Lab for a couple months now (Installed VMware Workstation and put in 24GB of ram in my system and went at it.) That worked reasonably well and I was going to build a Haswell-E system with 64GB of Ram...

Newly built system Random BSODs, Random game crashes and memtest86+ fails

Through a bootable dvd. Anyway it seems like memtest86+ does not support LGA1155 yet. The memory tested fine in my housemate's PC + on window based tests. I switched out my memory from corsair vengeance to some G.Skill Ripjaws. The ram I specifically got was not on ASUS' qaulified list. These...

Yeah that was my next step. Luckily my room mate is back so that is now a possibility.

Newly built system Random BSODs, Random game crashes and memtest86+ fails

tried alternating both sticks, in both slots memtest does not start in either. I did load the optimized defaults but none of that caused memtest to actually start. It just says 780k e820 off in the middle of the screen.

Newly built system Random BSODs, Random game crashes and memtest86+ fails

Yo. I just build this system. Its not the first system I have built and my last one still works fine so I am fairly sure I did not do it improperly. Since I built the system I have played games and so on for hours at a time. Sometimes it crashes in half an hour, some times nothing happens...

Regular Saphire HD 4890 $100 CAD less than alternatives? Is there a reason for that?

It was a joke. Read:Unfounded prejudice. As in not a logically coherent reason.

Regular Saphire HD 4890 $100 CAD less than alternatives? Is there a reason for that?

aight thanks. If i do go ATI, asus seems like the best bet from these choices. Ah well. Too bad. $200. But I need my overclock head room. Thanks again.

Regular Saphire HD 4890 $100 CAD less than alternatives? Is there a reason for that?

risqu3:Unfortunately I have a 'here and now' problem, as in i have a problem here, and need the card pretty much now. So the XfX is out. And I did mention the MSI, but that was followed with the question: Given that Sapphire is a baddie, what about the others. Shansoft: yeah, I came across the...

Regular Saphire HD 4890 $100 CAD less than alternatives? Is there a reason for that?

Well, that kinda sucks. Was looking like a half decent deal (for canada). What about the other vendors? I mean I like gigabyte fine as a mobo producer, and asus it alright but how are their cards and service? Do they overclock better?

Regular Saphire HD 4890 $100 CAD less than alternatives? Is there a reason for that?

Disclaimer, Canadian prices are disgusting. So lets say I have good reason to pick a card up (I know, bare upgrade over a 4870. lets just say i have a good reason). Why is the Sapphire HD 4890 OC $100 cheaper than offerings from Asus and Gigabyte? I am not one to buy cards from Asus or...

Diagnosing an Odd Boot up problem (Vista 64bit, 4870 and 8.7 drivers)

I totally forgot about this thread. But it was a bios issue. If anyone is having this problem, especially if you have a Mid08 Gigabyte Motherboard, I would recommend updating the bios. All problems evaporated and I have been happy for months.

Diagnosing an Odd Boot up problem (Vista 64bit, 4870 and 8.7 drivers)

Nah. It goes past the Windows load screen and right at that black screen point (the period between the windows loading bar screen and the Windows explorer.exe being loaded,) it stops. Just stops. Some times it sounds like the Card turns itself of. Sometimes an atrefact or 2 will appear on the...
