Haven't been here for a few months since everything was running just peachy...........UNTIL...........my CD/DVD drive just vanished into thin air! - as far as my BIOS is concerned. Tried the regedit bit and deleted the Upper Filters - no joy. Tried Rootkit scans - nothing evil found. Anyone here...

Thanks for the update, CHF0. It appears that the Stock 160W PSU can deliver a lot more juice than advertised - or everyone is playing it safe by overstating the power requirements. Like milicz, I've had no power problems whatsoever, but it would be nice to find a 300W or more "no brainer"...

CHF0 Please post the outcome of your situation. It would really be nice to find a 300W PSU that actually fits - and works! (just in case it's ever needed)

The Pocket Media Drive protrudes about 1/2" when the drive is inserted. I use it to store common files for a multi-partition system. Should be great for backups, too. I have the 250GB version. ($65 Used at Amazon, including shipping).

I must confess that I recently bought an 'Oldie-but-Goodie' HP 'Fatline' (DC7700 CMT), which I'm upgrading for my better half. When I opened the case, I could hardly believe the vast emptiness inside and the diminutiveness of the 365Watt PSU! There is enough empty space in there for at least 2...

"In a world without Windows, fewer people will be tempted to jump out of them!" After being led around in circles (until I'm dizzy) with my XP and multi-booting problems by MS Support in India, I've decided to S-CRAP the entire issue, including my XP OS. Life is too short to waste it in the...

The new drive went in without a snag and works perfectly! :) It's a little faster for some functions than the stock (Hitachi-LG) drive but doesn't have Lightscribe (never used it) BUT...the (new) XP Pro CD still couldn't be read and I finally figured out that it's damaged (crimps along the...

I'm still saving my pennies for a new digicam! I have the Smithsonian-edition SONY digicam (Mavica CD1000) that writes on mini-CDs!

OK - I spent $30, a good chunk of it for the SONY brand, I'm sure. I'll post the highlights of the install and initial operating results here.

You've been a great help - Thanks! (I was tempted by an ATAPI drive) PS I went for the SONY Optiarc from Newegg for $40, including shipping. Lotsa positive User comments about SONY reliability of their Optical drives.

Yeah - I'm in the good ol' USA! So what are the pros and cons between the SONY Optiarc and the Samsung? What about Lightscribe or equivalent?

Is the stock drive 5.25 form factor? Specs say SATA so I guess I can't use ATAPI, right? Newegg has a SATA special (SONY-Optiarc) for around $30+ $8 shipping. I'm deep in the woods with this! I may wander over to Fry's and get some (free) advice.

It seems that the source of my XP booting problems may well be a defective Optical Drive. Ran HP Hardware Diagnostics on it (W7) and it failed the very 1st CD-ROM test! Also, Slim 'hangs' when trying to boot from the CD Drive. HP Support/Diagnostic website says: After everything else fails (it...

Hey, jeremyshaw, why am I thinking of the song "Blue Screens" and the line "....nothing but blue screens - from now on"? Shades of the AMD 5600+, no doubt! If there are any Slimline users here with guts, please let us gutless (and burned) SlimKiwis know how your Slimline Acacia MB performed...
