So much weird speculation in this thread. In 25 years of gpus, I've killed more cards gaming than I did mining. I sold my cards locally and every person that has my cards actually still keep in touch with me as we connected on gaming stuff, pc...
I have a few friends playing Destiny 2 that went over to BC from Washington state to get some 4090s. Saves a ton of hassle waiting on stock updates and BB camping.
In the weird same vein of life, DeBauer trusted KrisFix for his GPU adventures in modding repair, so just something to keep in mind. So far the only real confirmed issue is a vapor chamber issue on what could be a batch of 7900xtx reference cards.
It's more of a PR nightmare for AMD right now, just a heads up for any 6x series owners as I'm hesitant to do any updates on my htpc rig now, but honestly haven't wanted to update the drivers on that pc for awhile as the games I play there work fine.
7900xtx, not a fire risk, just not getting the performance you paid for and potential rma in near future. Would you accept being only able to use 80% of your car's hp?
Advantage of us older gamers who've been building rigs since god knows is...
Seriously is a problem to the 99% of users who don't water cool and expect that at a 1k price point to have a decent functioning card working at the full output you paid for. I'd be pissed if I couldn't access all the hp in my car due to a design...
The problem includes AIB reference designs as well. DeBauer also noted the numbers may be in the 1000s of cards having this issue, but I'm having trouble being able to confirm any list of users that big.
It'll be interesting to see which models are unaffected vs how much they deviate off the stock cooler design. You won't see the problem while gaming unless you are actively monitoring power consumption and temps.
I think Igor tends to jump the gun lately with his analysis videos of the past few years. DeBauer really hit the problem on the head this time and amd will have some things to address asap.
Short of the FE cards, the AIB 4080's are so overpriced that some models actually are in the 4090 pricing territory. Unless you are living under a rock, it would make no sense to spend on a 4080 when a 4090 is practically the same price.

I started an ogryn and its hillarious. You gotta aim down at most enemies you face and your swings tend to stagger and bat them around like rag dolls. You are an easy target for gunners so having teammates who can pick them off for you on higher...
