Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
To me it seems totally random.
I have CPUs with even top multiplier that works best at odd multipliers.
All in all 19x and 21x seems to be the multipliers i most often hit 4 GHz at the lowest vcore (but not always).
Try the 21x multiplier, odd multipliers are often more stable.
With luck you will need less vcore for 21 x 200 compared to 22 x 191, at least this is true for my X5670.
And your board do allow for the 25x multiplier but you must activate C-states and turbo and only use two cores :)
You need...
With other board I mean (as far as I know) every other board in the universe that can run the X56xx and supports overclocking. (except the Sabertooth, I think it suffers from the same problem as the P6T series?)
The function to disable that power limit throtteling exists in a bios for the P6T WS...
This is wrong, X5670 can run at the 24x multiplier with all cores active and the 25x multi with two cores.
The P6T series motherboards throttle back to a non turbo multiplier (22x in this case) if the CPU uses more power than the TDP. This is not an issue on other boards.
They do work for gaming.
No real benefit in any game over a single 6 core though.
I will post benchmarks later when I have installed a decent video card in one of the SR-2 systems. I have been working alot lately.
I paid ~1200 Euro for a complete system with a EVGA SR-2 motherboard, those X5690 CPUs, 2x Noctua D14, 96GB memory, a 240GB Revo Drive PCI-E SSD, a cheap GFX and a Corsir AX750 PSU all in a Xigmatec case.
I though it was a deal too good to pass up although I already had two SR-2 boards with...
My Xeon X5690s managed to beat the X5650s by like 2 seconds :)
Conclusion: X5690 is not worth it on an EVGA SR-2, not that I diddnt know that before :D
Dual X5690 @ 4500 MHz
Rendertime 1m 40s
I just noticed that the 12*8GB memory I got with the SR-2 in the packade deal are not all of the same brand and model.
Half of it is Hyundai and half of it is Samsung, perhaps the Hyundai modules use Samsung chips?
I think I will remove the Hyundai modules before I overclock this system.
My new "storage solution" seems to work well.
I did a quick Crystal Disk Mark run with lots of programs and 50 firefox tabs open, the performance is still OK :)
The Xeon X56x0 will probably run cooler than your i7 930.
The Thermalright Ultra Extreme is good enough to cool it and not hold back overclocking, at least not by much.
