ok everyone thanks for all the help. The cable company came last night and fixed the problem. Seems my modem was bad. Not sure why my modem was only causing problems at night, but switching it solved the problem 100%. yea bf2 is lame, I've really been looking for another war type game...

thanks for the info, glad I can stop blaming my new x2 cpu...lol. Changing cable providers wouldnt' help at all would it?

now it seems everything seems to crap out around those times at night, even messenger reports High latency when I try to send a message. So I'm 100% sure its my Road Runner cable connection. I have another option which is earthlink cable internet, but its with my same cable...

I'm not using a router or firewall. I'm straight from the cable modem. bf2 works fine on my other computer which is an old 2500 barton xp so I know its not my connection. I even bought a pci network card b/c I thought the onboard might be bad. Problem is still here. I can't call it, think...

problem is back out of nowhere, I'm clueless...I really have no idea and can't even think of anything else to try. I have reinstalled windows twice and kept all installs to a minimum but the connection problem always pops up.

starting to wish I would have went that way, although this cpu overclocks to 2.5ghz easy, which is nice....I just played for about 30 min with no problems, but this doesn't prove anything yet. All I have installed now is the beta video drivers, latest dx, and ms hotfix...seems to be going good...

What all should I install? the drivers? optimizier? hotfix? nforce drivers? all of them? this is a known issue with bf2 and dual core/nforce 4 boards so its definately not my connection. None of these things are working for me though, but I'm just not sure if I should have all of the fixes...
