Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I think they're architecturally identical, except that the Opteron has been manufactured with far more overhead/redundancy. For overclocking, Opteron every time as it's not on the limit at stock speeds and voltages. If not clocking, then it's your call.
Please correct me if I've made a mistake.
But it's given us a good idea! Respect to anyone who actually tries it out (as long as he's doing it in the knowledge that it isn't the norm and he risks ALL his hardware).
Yeah, pumps don't *often* die, but when they do, it's absolutely devastating. If 1% of D5s die in their first year, and 3% of DDCs, I want a D5.
By the way, I've messaged coolercases through their website form and asked for a pump RMA. I can only hope; it's been about 5 months.
It would indeed go into a corner of your room, but it would spread out and the temperature would increase throughout the room. If it isn't enough to heat your room on its own, it will mean less energy is needed from your central heating - exactly the same amount less, in fact, than the wattage...
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to add anything to the answer - I'm sure it'll be absolutely fine, I was just moaning to myself. The HX520 could power a train, I think.
I fold at about 400ppd (was 600 w/overclock) and have started to stop folding overnight. I haven't had any dreams at night for MONTHS, until I started turning off my PC. I now have vivid, exciting dreams every night! :D It's probably healthier for me.
If an HX520 can power all that, then I think it can cope with an Opty 170, one hard drive, a DDC pump and a 7600GS. I therefore conclude that it wasn't a lack of power that made my DDC stop.
I understand completely what you're saying, and agree - apart from one thing. Be aware that folding won't come up with a major breakthrough without that power in the first place.
I wholeheartedly admire your donation, though - and you'll make just as much difference with that as you will by...
I would, but if I'd run out of AS5 I could see myself not reapplying the paste but scraping it all into one blob and re-spreading it.
Thermal pads don't work well at all after a reapplication.
At least respread it - you know how you get the spiky surface of the paste when you've pulled the HSF...
It's 100% efficient. Any energy your PC draws from the mains WILL become heat in your room. Unless you have some kind of cooling-system-to-outside setup like a water loop buried in the ground, it will all be dumped in your room.
headala: I'm on your wavelength.
Perhaps buy a D5 and ebay the top and pump? Assuming the D5's the one with the rheostat, can I set it to be quieter than a DDC and still get the excellent flow I got (using 7/16" Masterkleer)? After reliability, quietness is the most important thing. I can...
