    [H]ard Forum Storage Showoff Thread

I bought them on amazon, but yes those should be the same. I think one of the fans might be wonky (making grinding noise occasionally), but it's replaceable. Just need to figure out which one since it's so sporadic. Even if I replaced both fans, it's hard to beat the price.

    Quiet (relatively) gaming build.

I don't care much about RAID, Firewire, Onboard video, or eSATA. Many 1155 boards come with them anyway, which is fine. I'd like 2 or more SATA 6Gb/s ports (along with 4+ 3Gb/s ports). SLI/Crossfire capability is preffered, although I have no immediate plans to use dual cards. 2+ USB 3.0 ports...

    Quiet (relatively) gaming build.

I guess it would depend on how much the fan ramps up in my system. That may depend on the case I choose. If I have issues I may spring for an Intel board: Intel BOXDZ68BC LGA 1155 Intel Z68 No mobo is immune to problems with certain configurations, but it seems like Intel boards have as few as...

The [H]ard Forum Storage Showoff Thread - Post your 10TB+ systems

Haven't posted on this forum in a long time, but since I'm here might as well add my NAS to this thread. Not very impressive compared to a lot of the systems on here (15TB), but it's nice and compact. Built last summer for fun. Components: LIAN LI PC-Q08B Black Aluminum Mini-ITX Tower...

    Quiet (relatively) gaming build.

Thanks for all the feedback :) It has shipped but I could still return in theory, minus the restocking fee. Do you have any personal experience with ASRock? The motherboard he reviewed was a different (albeit similar) model, and his biggest complaint seemed to be with overclocking. The thin...

    Quiet (relatively) gaming build.

My old P35 Core 2 duo rig just went down (motherboard failure) so I'm using it as a good excuse to build a new system. :D I don't plan to overclock anything since I'd rather keep the build relatively cool & quiet. Lower temps are better for long term component life & less drama. I do a bit of...

Just ordered the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA

Thanks for the replies. My current monitor (VX2025) is still a nice one, but I went ahead and took the plunge. $219 is pretty good when you consider I paid $350 for the 20" 3 years back. Anyhow, the 3 year warranty was enough to assuage any misgivings (if it weren't for the warranty I'd...

Just ordered the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA

Almost everything I have read about this monitor sounds good. I know it doesn't support 1:1 scaling, but I wanted to confirm that fixed display scaling works (either from the monitor or though the nvidia control panel). I still play 4:3 AR games, so it would be a downer in the unlikely event...

    Redesigned 8800GT - Gigabyte GV-NX88T512HP

You could always downclock the bios if you are an adventurous sort http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1260590 Cutting the core to 650 and memory to stock would probably allow you to leave the fan at silent speeds.

    Redesigned 8800GT - Gigabyte GV-NX88T512HP

For those interested in controlling the fan speed but uncomfortable (like me) with splicing/jamming wires I found a fairly easy way to do it. The third wire for 3 pin mobo cables just monitors the fan speed (it doesn't control it) so there shouldn't be a problem adding a resistor to a 2 pin...
