Dell UltraSharp U2515H vs Dell UltraSharp U2515Hx

After a bit more digging around it might be the same exact monitor, except the "x" version comes with different cables. The non-x version comes with a DisplayPort cable, while the x version comes with an HDMI cable.

Best interim monitor (replacing Dell 3007WFP)

If uniformity is a concern you may want to avoid curved displays. That's going to warp how images are perceived by you. I don't think you'll find any professional media editors using curved displays.

Dell UltraSharp U2515H vs Dell UltraSharp U2515Hx

Does anyone know the difference between these 2 monitors? U2515H vs U2515Hx. One of them ends with "x". They are 2 distinct products according to Amazon (different prices and different listings). A quick Googling shows absolutely nothing. There's plenty of reviews for both but no one is...

How to get Virtual Audio Cable output to play through speakers?

Sort of. I set the output as my headphones instead of virtual audio cables in REAPER and then just recorded a bunch of files in REAPER until I eventually got a sound that I liked. Then I set the output as virtual audio cables and it works as planned. Having to do the initial recordings wasn't...

    New Mic

Trent, it sounds like you were positioned a lot closer to the samson mic when you recorded those. When shopping for better audio quality, you have to remember that a lot of it comes from things not even related to your mic. A good mic will surely help but removing noise, positioning yourself...

How to get Virtual Audio Cable output to play through speakers?

Hi, I'm starting to get into streaming and I'm not quite an audio wizard, but here's what I have so far: Free virtual audio cable driver: VB-Audio Virtual Apps Reaper (real time ability to modify my voice): REAPER | Audio Production Without Limits Free tool to record your screen: Open...

Just how big of a difference is there between an i5 and i7 for virtualization?

The VMs are just running services to make the app work in a development environment. It's not serving traffic to anything or storing a ton of data. The 3x vagrant setup is to act as a staging server for the real app. The VMs only need 512mb-1 gig each. So far I have not used more than 10 gigs...

Just how big of a difference is there between an i5 and i7 for virtualization?

If anyone was in the same boat as me, the new box is up and I have it setup for development. i5 4460 was the CPU I picked. It has no problem with the following VMWare setup: Host: Windows 8.1 Guest #1: Ubuntu with GUI (spending most of my time here) Guest #1: Running 3x Vagrant driven Debian...

What's the point of 4k if you scale up the size of things?

I was at 20/20 with glasses a few months ago at my last perscription change. Glad to hear your success though at those display sizes. Man I want GT's monitor so bad but 1k haha, I can't pull the trigger at that price. You can buy a completely decked out 4k 15" laptop for the same price (i7...

What's the point of 4k if you scale up the size of things?

GT, That monitor is 1k on Amazon. Looks like a beauty tho. I could sit at about 24". I'm totally fine with 125% scaling in a browser, but I want to enjoy the full glory of 4k res at 100% for general real estate for everything else. What put you over the top to get that instead of 2x 2560x1440s?

What's the point of 4k if you scale up the size of things?

In my case I work remotely so I would be alone but I don't want to sit there struggling to read text all day. That would be almost as bad as some crusty neckbeard being within lice jumping distance from my face in an office situation. I'm also a full stack developer, so it's not just text. I...

What's the point of 4k if you scale up the size of things?

@leeleatherwood, I wouldn't but I keep reading a ton of people saying they need to scale up to at least 125% for most 24-27" monitors at 4k because it's barely readable otherwise. Also I don't think there are any reasonably priced 32-34" 4k monitors that are IPS, SST and 60hz capable...

What's the point of 4k if you scale up the size of things?

I'm in the market to buy a new monitor for development and casual gaming but I'm worried about going with 4k because check this out. 3840 x 2160 vs. 1920 x 1080 Does that mean if you run a 4k monitor at 200% scaling you will end up with the same exact screen real estate as 1080p? Of course...

Upgrading a 7 year old C2D -- Can we do better with this budget?

Hmm I left the fans in their default orientation. I also setup the Evo to blow air from the ram side through the heatsink and out the back by the input jacks of the mobo. Dust was a huge issue with the c2d build but I didn't pay attention to fan direction and intake/outtake. I just had 2 fans...

Upgrading a 7 year old C2D -- Can we do better with this budget?

Build has arrived and it's been assembled. So far so good. Word of caution though, the case does not support 2.5" inch drives without either buying a third party 3.5" to 2.5" converter or getting creative with the placement of the SSD. I mounted it with 2 screws and it's very solid but it still...
