    vmworld 2017

It's been a chore trying to register for sessions, and now that I have - I can't view the schedule. Is Net Junkie still around [H]? I have attended a couple of his sessions on the past, and was kinda looking for an insider's view. This section of the forum appears to have taken a drastic drop...

    vmworld 2017

Haven't seen the topic come up in here yet - Any sessions a must attend? Was digging through the catalog today looking for NSX and HCI, but most of what I'm finding are set for Thursday and I'll be on the flight home already. I'm more interested in the technical discovery sessions, saving...

    vSphere 6 released today!

As an NSX customer, it is of my opinion that the hesitation to offer this to the masses is a lack of support ability at a broader of level. If it's not a completely green field environment, NSX in its current state offers a lot of unexpected complexity when things go wrong. Often times, the...

just shot myself in the foot with virtual VC (again)

The latest thick client solved my dilemma, editing the vmx wasn't out of the question if that didn't work though.

just shot myself in the foot with virtual VC (again)

Seems I jumped the gun a bit (no pun intended) - per this KB, I should be able to edit settings using the 5.5u2 client: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2061336 I thought I was using it already, but guess not :)

just shot myself in the foot with virtual VC (again)

Running esxi 5.5, deployed a server 2012 template to host virtual center on. Problem is, the template is vmx-10 and I can't manage settings to change the NIC backing without using the web client. I can't use the web client because virtual center is not yet available. Since I'm in deployment...

    anyone playing with NSX yet?

Ah, thanks for the clarification - makes sense now! You've also dodged the dual VC environment question in the same fashion as our local reps - I hope this is on the roadmap for sooner than later :). I may have many questions for you, but still have much to wrap my head around first!

    anyone playing with NSX yet?

I'm confused, your previous post mentions not to put the 3 NSX controllers on managed hosts or problems arise. A 3 node cluster to me = 3 managed hosts does it not? Just looking for clarification. Our production environments are managed by physical VC blades, I had to "make due with what I...

    anyone playing with NSX yet?

Well, we're back in business after finding an engineer on our staff with REST api experience. The blog article used as reference is here: http://telecomoccasionally.wordpress.com/2014/03/08/nsx-for-vsphere-recovering-from-distributed-firewall-vcenter-lock-out/ The deployment has been less...

    anyone playing with NSX yet?

Something we're thinking about rolling out in our production environment, just got it running in the lab yesterday and it only took us a few hours to block ourselves out of vcenter with a deny any any rule... Closest recovery I could find was a blog article indicating that you could invoke...

    Esxi Power Consumption

The Perc 5i is likely your culprit. Scrap that and use the hard drives for non-raid backup storage if you can, an SSD will give better performance (power and IO) for active VMs if you can justify the cost per your storage requirements. That should keep you at less than 60w I'd think. I...

    Synology and VMware tricks

You can rest assured that NetJunkie probably doesn't do this in a production environment. We're talking about a home lab here :)

    zfs storage system help

Thanks for the link - I just bought a pair of 30gb SSDs with better specs because the previous pair of 16gb in place had terrible performance. This is my first intended test after CIFS performance was figured out. I'll be running IO meter against some VMs running on this storage across iscsi...

    zfs storage system help

The root of my problem was running two network segments on the same switch with zentyal acting as the gateway for both. So, server was 10.0.0.10 and workstation was 10.0.10.10. This was a temporary setup to test a configuration, obviously something was flawed. After putting everything back on...

    zfs storage system help

Think I got it sorted out, had a zentyal box acting as a gateway that once removed alleviated all xfer speed issues. Now I'm doing some performance testing against the ZIL, which might be a little excessive considering the link speed I'm limited to. Thanks for the reply!
