    GeForce Windows 10 Driver

Hiyas, well i am having quite severe problems with Windows 10's Geforce Driver. Seems it happens only if you run a 4K display at 60 hz via HDMI. There are multiple threads about it already ...

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

Got my 7100 yesterday ... already decided, it's a keeper :D not fully calibrated yet, and still running in 4:2:0 ... but i can't go back to my 30" anymore. this will only get better in the next months when i upgrade cards :D

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

Running a ole Titan here ... the graphics card upgrade question really is not a trivial one  Do i wait for 980ti (in the hopes of fusionned VRAM SLI later), do i go for a Titan X for starters (which takes a toll on holiday budgets) or do i wait for 390x and live with meh Titan 4:2:0...

can't it be related to incorrect 3D acceleration? this blocky artifacts kind of what i see on my linuxes when i dont have a compositor active? also seen it sometimes on windows.

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

mh, another crazy question. right now my computer runs a Titan, and for now i am quite happy with it (fast enough fir Civ V, and most of my scampering in Davinci Resolve). Naturally, that card won't work well with the Samsung in 4:4:4. Now, would it be possible to add a cheapo card like...

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

Hi vorpel, thanks for the nice ideas, I have to admit you are quite right ... no real reason to have matching PPI.... even with the Dell PLP i started applications like foobar / chat windows / secondary browser (which is zoomable anyway) on the side panels. I like the idea of using 1200p...

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

that's sad news ... when i saw the 48" model in store i couldn't notice any flickering or image instability... but that's maybe because the store was bright and the TV's brightness turned up. Now i can't wait to see the screen at home and check if i experience the same problems as both of...

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

It's all about how many arc-minutes the eye can resolve. That's why today the TV seller today looked amused as i ordered the 40" panel (prolly thinking i was one of those customers who had no clue about distance/eye resolution ratios.) When i told him it was for monitor use his jaw dropped...

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

Hi guys, i also jumped on the bandwagon, and a 40" 7100 has just been ordered ... can't wait for it to ship :D I'll be coming from a 30" Dell PLP setup, and i think i want to keep things that way with the new Samsung TV. A few rough calculations show that the 40" is at around 110 PPI, and the...

    Summer FileServer/MediaServer Build Log

Hi zankza, first the easy part : the bluray ripping :D Use makemkv. it's free while in beta (has been in beta since forever), rips blurays to mkv and doesnt touch video or audio data (native video and audio streams, i can testify that DolbyTrueHD and DTS-MA get passed fine to the receiver)...

ZFS RaidZ2 Homeserver - build log

Unfortunately Solaris 11.2 is closed source; wish Oracle would take a more open stance. As for encryption i have been using it since my truecrypt-vista days (don't ask), and i feel i would take a step backward if i don't use it. I'm also more familiar with debian, although i can't say i'm...

ZFS RaidZ2 Homeserver - build log

Small update: had some time to work this weekend on the server.... man can server hardware and ESXi be bitchy... first the network card wasnt recognized during boot and didnt show up in lspci .... probably some DMA trouble, so i had to swap cards around till they finally were all recognized...

ZFS RaidZ2 Homeserver - build log

Yesh :) the server is running ESXi nicely, and i'm experimenting with a few OS' (FreeBSD, Nas4Free and Gea's Napp-it)... i'll soon commit to an OS and migrate the data from my old fileserver. Progress was slower than i thought, as work was too busy... so were my holidays :)

ZFS RaidZ2 Homeserver - build log

Actually that's just the second 10GBe interface of the Supermicro Mobo connecting to the fileserver... i doubt i will add a 10GBe card to the backup server. I need to rebuild the backup server first, as is not up to speed yet. Probably will reuse one old core2quad mobo, add an M1015 + SAS...
