Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Thank you both for these great explanations. If I get this right it would probably be much more efficient to give up on that 500GB drive and instead use another 3TB drive - this would yield 8TB at basically the same safety level as outline above for 6.5TB, right?
Would it be better to make up...
Hi there,
I have just built a 10+TB storage server using 6 identical 3TB drives in a raidz2 FreeNAS setup. I can appreciate and understand that this is not a backup, but let's say the data stored has some pretty solid redundancy available.
Now, I still have a bunch of other drives lying...
First of all, thanks again for all the input. I have decided to go for a system along the lines of bob6987 - when a C60M1 mainboard became available I opted for that solution. The setup in detail:
Case: Fractal Design Node 304
Mainboard: Asus C60M1-I
Power Supply: BeQuiet Straight...
Thank you for this input. I was actually briefly looking at the HP 'server' N40L, which apparently allows 8GB of ECC RAM to be used. Would that be worth the hassle of using a case that is not really intended to house 6 hard drives and just make it work (the google tells me it's possible)? Or...
Thank you for your reply. :) Alright, I follow and I appreciate your stance on the safety (or lack thereof) of running RAID5 in a multi-TB solution. Now, let's say I go for ZFS, this would be a software based RAID solution - I assume 'Raidz2' would be the ZFS-way of doing RAID6? Or would you...
Hey everyone,
previously a lurker, now a member. I am in need of some advice and would very much appreciate your input.
I am archiving my collection of DVDs (1,000+) and BDs (just starting out) after having done a complete FLAC archive of my music. Space is running out on my current...
