    Digging more, found this. http://www.areca.us/support/download/RaidCards/Documents/Hardware/MBCompatibilityList.zip There are a few boards that support this card in a PCI slot, but yours isn't listed.

    Some PCI-X cards work in PCI slots and some don't. I'd bet the areca is one that doesn't.

    That board doesn't have a PCI-X slot, just plain PCI. PCI-X will not work in a PCI slot.
