"You can get the whole amp replace by Klipsch for $60"? They quoted me $125 back in November, plus shipping. Elliot fixed it for less. It is working better than when new.
Sounds(no pun intended) like the amp has failed components. You may or may not see burnt components. Without electronics experience there's little you can do. I'd contact Elliot for advice/repair/upgrade.
I think you've answered your own question. You have reservations so you'll never be happy unless you step up, say to the 10 or 12" Daytons already suggested.
I'm surprised Klipsch didn't come clean and offer their amp repair for $125. The amp in the subwoofer is notorius for burning out components. It's why they discontinued them.Some people have them only last days or weeks while mine went almost five years before the signs of failure started. Too...
Paid $359 for mine five years ago. I think they're worth repairing plus it's the environmentally correct thing to do in my opinion. If the amp goes again I've got a receiver laying around I could use.
I'm curious as to the symptoms of other's amps demise. Once warmed up I'd get crackling...
