    7950's caught on fire!

Yeah thats ridiculous! Gigabyte has been great about the RMA so far. It was approved within the day, processed within a few days of the card arriving and I just got a tracking number this morning.

    7950's caught on fire!

I started mining back in 2011 with some sapphire 6950's and powercolor 6950's... Those things are still mining today and never had a single issue or instability. I did have to replace the fans on some of them though but powercolor was awesome about that.

    7950's caught on fire!

I put together an open setup in a basement that stays around 60-70F year round. It works out pretty well :D I guess the 7950's aren't tough enough.

    7950's caught on fire!

Hmm.. All of these cards are 6/8 pins. voltage: 1.090V (stock is fixed at 1.250V but i flashed to an older bios version that runs lower) core/mem: 1000/1250 (stock) temps: ~75-80C stable at load, 90C cutoff auto-gpu isn't turned on. I'll try running with that. I don't know if the...

    7950's caught on fire!

Fortunately they've approved my first RMA... I haven't done the second one yet. I've developed this learned behavior of turning that computer on = bad. I'm scared of another one burning up.

    7950's caught on fire!

I have a machine setup with 4x Gigabyte 7950's that I've been litecoin mining with for a few months. It strangely crashed one day. I turned it back on. Sparks flew and a nice red glow was left over while I flailed at the power switch to cut the power. Here's the result...

    getting into bitcoining?

If you open the dev console in the gui-cgminer you can see the actual command thats being run on the command line. Its pretty easy to use the gui miner to test different configurations and when its nailed down you can just steal the arguments and run with it. With the gui miner you can target a...

7970 Crossfire smooth in Bioshock Infinite?

Yeah, I get that stutter on a single 7970 when crossing a loading threshold.

    confused on CPU paste

This. It isn't rocket science and there isn't any special pattern that makes it the best. A simple pea in the middle and pressure from the heatsink gives you the nice uniform spread you are looking for.

    Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

I just built a machine using this case. It's great. It's well built and everything feels solid. It's a lot nicer than the Corsair 650D I used in a previous build.

    getting into bitcoining?

Woo you went to litecoins haha. I have a few 6950's running and I've been able to get abount 400 khash/s. Here's my settings. Maybe they'll help you get another 50 khash/s or so. 800/1250 (stock speeds) 256 worksize 18 Intensity 8000 thread concurrency 1 gpu threads 1 vectors

Looking for a case under $150 that has removable mesh filters

I just got the Arc Midi r2. There are filters on the front, the top and underneath the case. All of them are easily removable. If you just need some filters the Silverstone Tek 120mm Filters are great! Magnetic and a very fine mesh.

    CPU cooler recommendation?

The NH-D14 is just so freaking huge... I ended up getting a H100i. It just looks a ton cleaner. Call me vain but man I couldn't stand looking at the NH-D14 all the time. I haven't installed the H100i yet but I have high hopes. Worst case is you buy a better/quieter fan.
